Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Stabilität und Zusammensetzung des Kupferkomplexes mit Chromazurol S wurden untersucht.
Notes: Summary Stability and composition of the chelate of copper and Chrome Azurol S have been investigated, and suggestions are made for the spectrophotometric determination of copper.

Notes: Summary A method has been recommended for the determination of thorium and molybdenum when present in micro-quantities, based on the formation of a red coloured water soluble chelate (λ max=520 nm for thorium and λ max=470 nm for molybdenum) of the composition M∶Re=1∶2, with sodium-alizarin-3-sulphonate. A large number of ions, however, interfere and should be removed before measurements are made. The solution of thorium chloride or ammonium molybdate may then be treated with a freshly prepared solution of Alizarin Red S. The pH should be kept within the range 3.2 to 8.0 for thorium, 3.5 to 5.6 (preferably at 5.0) for molybdenum and the colour intensity may be measured with a photoelectric colorimeter or with a spectrophotometer. Temperature has no influence on the colour intensity. Determinations are possible between 0.23 and 16.70 ppm of thorium and 0.19 to 6.9 ppm of molybdenum.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Methode zur colorimetrischen Bestimmung von Wolfram(VI) mit Alizarinrot S beschrieben.
Notes: Summary A method for the colorimetric determination of hexavalent tungsten with Alizarin Red S has been described. The composition of the coloured chelate is MKe2 and the wave length of maximum absorption is 470 nm. The colour reaction is almost instantaneous. The coloured complex conforms to Beer's Law over tungsten concentration of 0.37 to 13.3 ppm. The suitable pH for the measurement is 3.5 to 5.8 and temperature has no effect on the intensity of the colour. The sensitivity is 0.037 μg/cm2 (Sandell) and 0.37 μg/cm2 (practical) based on an absorption of 0.01 unit. The interference of added foreign ions has also been investigated and most of the common ions are found to interfere and should, therefore, be removed before determination of tungsten is made.

Notes: The formation of a red coloured chelate (λmax 455 mμ) between ammonium vanadate and sodium alizarin-3-sulphonate has been taken advantage of, in the colorimetric determination of pentavalent vanadium on a micro-scale. The colour formation is instantaneous and the colour intensity is constant between 5°C and 70°C and pH 3.5 and 5.8. The system adheres to BEERS Law over a range of 0.10 to 3.67 p. p. m. of vanadium. The sensitivity is 0.051 γ/cm2 (Sandell) and 0.51 γcm2 (Practical) Copper, beryllium, bismuth, iron, aluminum, cerium, uranium, thorium, tungsten, molybdenum, carbonate, borate, citrate, and tartrate interfere in the determination.

Notes: The reaction of sulpho-dichloro hydroxy-dimethyl fuchson dicarboxylic acid (trisodium salt) with aluminium (III) ions in aqueous solution to give a stable violet complex has been studied in detail, regarding the composition and stability of the chelate and its analytical applications. Absorbance as well as electrical conductance measurements have been performed to determine the composition of the chelate which comes out to be 1:1 (metal:chelating agent). The chelate has its maximum absorbance at 545 mμ, and is stable between pH 3.05 and 6.60. The system obeys Beer's Law over a concentration range of 0.013 to 0.980 p. p. m. of aluminium. The value of log K, as calculated by the absorbance data is 4.3 ± 0.1 at pH 4.0 ± 0.2, temperature 30°C and ionic strength 0.2 (KCl). The corresponding free energy change of formation has also been evaluated. The effects of pH, temperature, time and diverse ions on the reaction have been studied and suggestions have been advanced on the possible position of the chelate ring in the complex. A procedure for the colorimetric microdetermination of aluminium has also been suggested.
