Notes:
Productivity gains from a CAD/CAM system through integration with other factory automation systems have shown tremendous benefits for the plastics industry. For successful utilization of CAD/CAM systems, companies have to maximize the use of electronic data base and communication with other systems. General Electric, through its Calma operation, is aggressively addressing these integration opportunities in the plastics industry. The importance of the Computer Integrated Manufacturing system along with design and engineering tools available for increased productivity, are described in this paper.
