Conclusions 1. Diffusion saturation with boron and other elements showed that obtaining composite coatings by simultaneous diffusion of two elements depends on the chemical interaction of the elements in the saturating mixture. Borides in the composite coating which are stable at operating temperatures are obtained in a narrow range of compositions of the saturating mixture or are not formed at all. Therefore, it is necessary to use the two-stage method of saturation to obtain composite coatings of boron + titanium and boron + chromium. 2. Composite coatings based on boron provide better protection than boronized coatings.
