Summary: This article gives an overview of the objectives and the structure of the German System of Environmental Economic Accounts (GEEA). The aim of environmental economic accounting is to show in statistical terms which natural resources are used, consumed, depleted, or destroyed by economic activities. Due to unsolved valuation problems the Federal Statistical Office of Germany does not calculate an ecologically adjusted domestic product or Green GDP as a single figure, but follows a pragmatic approach that is characterised by a modular structure. Physical and monetary indicators are equally used. Statistical data have to be provided for pressure on the environment, state of the environment and environmental protection measures. In the last section, the article presents selected results of the GEEA.

Zusammenfassung: Der vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die Ziele und den Aufbau der Umweltökonomischen Gesamtrechnungen (UGR) des Statistischen Bundesamtes. Ziel der UGR ist die statistische Erfassung der Beziehungen zwischen Wirtschaft und Umwelt. Die Berechnung eines “Ökoinlandprodukts” als eine Zahl der amtlichen Statistik wird vom Statistischen Bundesamt wegen der damit verbundenen nicht lösbaren Bewertungsprobleme nicht angestrebt. Es verfolgt hingegen einen pragmatischen Ansatz. Wesentliches Kennzeichen des UGR-Konzepts ist ein modularer Aufbau. Physische und monetäre Indikatoren stehen als gleichwertige Resultate nebeneinander. Entstehung der Umweltbelastung, Umweltzustand und Umweltschutzmaßnahmen sind die Kategorien, für die statistische Daten bereitzustellen sind. Im Ergebnisteil werden ausgewählte Daten der Umweltökonomischen Gesamtrechnungen vorgestellt.
