    Notes: Abstract Hybrid materials from Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and titania were prepared using sol-gel technique. In-situ generation of titania network in the PVC matrix was carried out by introducing required amounts of tetrapropylorthotitanate (TPOT) followed by hydrolysis/condensation of TPOT in the matrix. Homogeneous and semi-transparent films were obtained by casting and solvent evaporation. Mechanical properties of these films up to 15 wt. % titania contents were studied. The results showed an increase in the Young's modulus, length at rupture and toughness of the unplasticised PVC. However, the tensile strength and stress at break point decreased with the addition of titania contents. Thermal stability of the material was studied using dehydrochlorination (DHCl) technique and thermogravimetric analysis. The PVC samples with small amount of titania were found to be more stable as compared with the pure PVC.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung N-Bromsuccinimid wurde als Maßlösung zur direkten Titration von Thiocyanat verwendet. Bordeauxrot diente hierbei als Indikator. Bei der Titration von Kaliumrhodanid betrug die relative Standardabweichung 2% (bei 0,5 mg Einwaage), im Falle von Ammoniumrhodanid 0,9% (bei 0,7 mg Einwaage).
    Notes: Summary N-bromosuccinimide has been used as a direct titrant for thiocyanates. Bordeaux red has been used as an indicator. In case of ammonium thiocyanate, nitrogen is evolved. While in case of potassium thiocyanate 0.5- to 2-mg samples were analyzed and maximum relative standard deviation was 1% in case of 0.5-mg sample. In case of ammonium thiocyanate 0.3- to 2.5-mg samples were analyzed and maximum relative standard diviation was 0.9% in case of 0.7-mg sample. The method is quick, precise and accurate.

N-Bromsuccinimid dient als Maßlösung, Bordeauxrot als Indikator, dessen rote Farbe scharf nach gelb umschlägt. Der Fehler ist meist kleiner als ±0,5%, in wenigen Fällen ungefähr ±1%. Vergleichsweise wurden erprobt: 1. die Rücktitration; 2. direkte Titration mit Kristall violett oder Bordeauxrot. Letzteres hat sich besser bewährt. Wäßrige Lösungen von N-Bromsuccinimid sind in der Kälte vor Licht geschützt einige Tage haltbar.
    Notes: Summary A rapid and convenient method for the determination of sulfur amino acids is described. N-Bromosuccinimide is used as a direct titrant using Bordeaux Red as an indicator. The red color of the indicator changes to distinct yellow with a sharp end point. The error is less than ±0.5% in most cases, and in a few cases it is near ±1%. Comparison of three methods has been made: back-titration; direct method using either Crystal Violet or Bordeaux Red as indicators. Bordeaux Red proved to be the more suitable end point indicator. Aqueous solutions of N-bromosuccinimide are stable over a period of several days when kept refrigerated and protected from light.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ein Verfahren zur gleichzeitigen Bestimmung von Cystein und Cystin sowohl in reinen Lösungen wie im enzymatischen System der Cystinreduktase wurde ausgearbeitet. N-Bromsuccinimid (I) dient als einzige Standardlösung für solche Bestimmungen. Cystein wurde bei pH 7 auf der Basis der Jodfreisetzung aus Kaliumjodid mit I.bestimmt. Die Gesamtmenge Cystein + Cystin wurde mit I gegen Bordeaux-Rot als Indikator titriert. Vergleichsweise wurde die Cysteinbestimmung mit I und mit Kaliumjodat durchgeführt. Im enzymatischen System ergaben sich mit Jodat relativ hohe Werte. I gibt genauere Resultate, wie sich durch Bestimmung der Restmenge Cystin nach einer bestimmten Inkubationszeit zeigen läßt. Wird I als Maßlösung zu Cystein und/oder Cystin in reinen Lösungen verwendet, so ist der Fehler kleiner als ±1 %. Verwendet man I zur Titration von Cystin im enzymatischen System, so erzielt man größere Genauigkeit als mit Kaliumjodat.
    Notes: Summary A new, rapid, convenient, and accurate method for the simultaneous determination of cysteine and cystine has been developed for use in pure solutions as well as in the enzymatic system, cystine reductase. N-Bromosuccinimide is the only standard solution employed in these determinations. Cysteine was determined at pH 7 by displacement of iodine from potassium iodide with N-bromosuccinimide. The total cysteine plus cystine was determined by N-bromosuccinimide using Bordeaux Red as an indicator. A comparative study to determine cysteine using N-bromosuccinimide and potassium iodate was performed. It has been found that the values obtained with potassium iodate in the enzymatic system are relatively high. N-Bromosuccinimide gives more accurate results as shown by determining the residual amount of cystine after a particular time of incubation. When N-bromosuccinimide is used as a titrant for cysteine and/or cystine in pure solutions the error is less than ±1%. When N-bromosuccinimide is used as a titrant in the enzymatic system for the determination of cystine, the method is more precise and more accurate when compared to the use of potassium iodate.

Aceton dient zur Maskierung von Bisulfit, zumal Formaldehyd sich hierfür nicht eignet, weil er sowohl mit N-Bromsuccinimid(I) wie auch mit Askorbinsäure reagiert. I dient als Maßflüssigkeit, die zunächst Jodid zu Jod oxydiert, das seinerseits mit Askorbinsäure reagiert. Der Endpunkt ist erreicht, wenn die Blaufärbung 30 sec bestehen bleibt. Die Methode ist rasch und genau. Die maximale relative Abweichung beträgt bei Orangensaft 2,4%.
    Notes: Summary A displacement titration method for the estimation of vitamin C from juices and squashes has been developed. Acetone is used as complexing agent for bisulfite because formaldehyde is not suitable as it reacts with N-bromosuccinimide and also combines with ascorbic acid. N-Bromosuccinimide is used as the titrant, which preferentially oxidizes iodide to iodine which in turn reacts with ascorbic acid. End-point is reached when bluish colour persists for 30 seconds. The method is rapid and precise. The maximum relative standard deviation is 2.4% in case of orange squash.
