Notes:
Probability theory has been applied to the analysis of bacterial distribution within a fibrous air sterilization filter. For a long filter layer, to which the so-called ‘log-penetration’ law is no longer applicable, the probability theory is considered to be effective in interpreting the distribution data. The effects of the diameter, volume fraction and moisture content of the glass-fibre on the longitudinal distribution of bacterial cells, were studied. The distribution was estimated beyond the experimental data points. This estimation will be of use for predicting the ‘life’ of an air sterilization filter.
