Description: Calibration of the polarimeter system is one of the key elements to determine the overall measurement accuracy. The anisotropic reflection and transmission properties of the mesh beam splitters can easily distort the polarization state of the circularly polarized beams. Using a rotating crystal quartz λ/2-waveplate to replace the plasma can effectively allow us to obtain the ratio of the measured Faraday rotation angle to the known rotation angle of the waveplate. This ratio is used to estimate the calibration factor for each chord to be accurately determined and help to minimize distortions introduced by the wire-mesh beam splitters. With the novel configuration optimization, the distortion of polarization state is effectively eliminated.

Description: A bstract A new species of boreopterid pterosaur from the new fossil locality, Heichengzi, Beipiao, western Liaoning, China allows a reassessment of the Boreopteridae. In this new analysis, three species, Boreopterus cuiae , Boreopterus giganticus n. sp., and Zhenyuanopterus longirostris , are included within the Boreopteridae united by the autopomorphic occurrence of two main tooth morphologies, an equal length of the tibia and femur, and weak feet. Other taxa previously placed within the Boreopteridae are not in a monophyletic group with the former three species. Boreopterus has fewer teeth and a shorter tooth row than that in Zhenyuanopterus . This new Boreopterus species has a large size, a piriform orbit, an extensively fenestrated lacrimal, and a posteriorly directed lacrimal process, that differs from Boreopterus cuiae .

Description: The Hargreaves method of using the average temperature (T av ) was used to calibrate the estimation of potential evapotranspiration (PE) for daily meteorological data of 35 weather stations from 1951 to 2015 in the Weihe River Basin and a statistical downscaling model was applied to downscale the Hadley Centre Sea-Atmosphere Coupled Model (HadCM3) output data to each station. The future temporal and spatial variations of temperature and evapotranspiration under different climate change scenarios were evaluated for the periods of 2016–2039, 2040–2069, and 2070–2099. The results show that the downscaling method is well suited for estimating the PE and that the PE in the Weihe River Basin is larger in May–July and smaller in autumn and winter. The mean annual temperature and annual PE exhibit an increasing trend for the high greenhouse gas emission scenario (RCP8.5) and low greenhouse gas emissions scenario (RCP4.5) and the magnitude of increase is greater for the RCP8.5 s...

Description: A previously unknown redox cofactor has been identified in the active site of lysyl oxidase from the bovine aorta. Edman sequencing, mass spectrometry, ultraviolet-visible spectra, and resonance Raman studies showed that this cofactor is a quinone. Its structure is derived from the crosslinking of the epsilon-amino group of a peptidyl lysine with the modified side chain of a tyrosyl residue, and it has been designated lysine tyrosylquinone. This quinone appears to be the only example of a mammalian cofactor formed from the crosslinking of two amino acid side chains. This discovery expands the range of known quino-cofactor structures and has implications for the mechanism of their biogenesis.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Wang, S X -- Mure, M -- Medzihradszky, K F -- Burlingame, A L -- Brown, D E -- Dooley, D M -- Smith, A J -- Kagan, H M -- Klinman, J P -- GM27659/GM/NIGMS NIH HHS/ -- GM39296/GM/NIGMS NIH HHS/ -- P41 RR01614/RR/NCRR NIH HHS/ -- etc. -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 1996 Aug 23;273(5278):1078-84.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Department of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720, USA.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Record origin:〈/span〉 〈a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8688089" target="_blank"〉PubMed〈/a〉

Description: Certain algorithms for quantum computers are able to outperform their classical counterparts. In 1994, Peter Shor came up with a quantum algorithm that calculates the prime factors of a large number vastly more efficiently than a classical computer. For general scalability of such algorithms, hardware, quantum error correction, and the algorithmic realization itself need to be extensible. Here we present the realization of a scalable Shor algorithm, as proposed by Kitaev. We factor the number 15 by effectively employing and controlling seven qubits and four "cache qubits" and by implementing generalized arithmetic operations, known as modular multipliers. This algorithm has been realized scalably within an ion-trap quantum computer and returns the correct factors with a confidence level exceeding 99%.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Notes: 〈/span〉Monz, Thomas -- Nigg, Daniel -- Martinez, Esteban A -- Brandl, Matthias F -- Schindler, Philipp -- Rines, Richard -- Wang, Shannon X -- Chuang, Isaac L -- Blatt, Rainer -- New York, N.Y. -- Science. 2016 Mar 4;351(6277):1068-70. doi: 10.1126/science.aad9480.〈br /〉〈span class="detail_caption"〉Author address: 〈/span〉Institut fur Experimentalphysik, Universitat Innsbruck, Technikerstrasse 25, A-6020 Innsbruck, Austria. thomas.monz@uibk.ac.at. ; Institut fur Experimentalphysik, Universitat Innsbruck, Technikerstrasse 25, A-6020 Innsbruck, Austria. ; Center for Ultracold Atoms, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA. ; Institut fur Experimentalphysik, Universitat Innsbruck, Technikerstrasse 25, A-6020 Innsbruck, Austria. Description: Waste cooking oil (WCO) and its model compounds (oleic acid and methyl laurate) are catalytically pyrolyzed in a fixed-bed reactor over La modified ZSM-5 catalysts (La/ZSM-5) aiming for production of C2-C4 light olefins. The LaO content in catalysts was set at 0, 2, 6, 10 and 14 wt%. The gas and liquid products are analyzed. The La/ZSM-5 catalyst with 6% LaO showed higher selectivity to light olefins when WCO and methyl laurate were pyrolyzed, and olefin content was 26% for WCO and 21% for methyl laurate. The catalyst with 10% LaO showed high selectivity to light olefins (28.5%) when oleic acid was pyrolyzed. The liquid products from WCO and model compounds mainly contain esters and aromatic hydrocarbons. More esters were observed in liquid products from methyl laurate and WCO pyrolysis, indicating that it is more difficult to pyrolyze esters and WCO than oleic acid. The coked catalysts were analyzed by temperature-programmed oxidation. The result shows that graphite is the main...
