    Notes: Abstract From the point of view of dynamics, the phenomenon of mode jumping in the imperfect pitchfork problem is discussed. The dynamical mechanism of model jumping of structures, such as plate and shell, that is brought about by the extremum instability, is explained. Finally, we give numerical simulation to show the validity of our results.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, a boundary element method for solving dynamical response of viscoelastic thin plate is given. In Laplace domain, we propose two methods to approximate the fundamental solution and develop the corresponding boundary element method. Then using the improved Bellman's numerical inversion of the Laplace transform, the solution of the original problem is obtained. The numerical results show that this method has higher accuracy and faster convergence.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, the dynamic stability of a viscoelastic circular cylindrical shell subject to an axial compressive force and a uniformly distributed radial compressive load is discussed. By using the Laplace transformation, stability conditions of viscoelastic shell under constant loads are yielded. By using synthetically the classical dynamic methods, the various dynamical properties for the dynamical system defined by the viscoelastic shell and the effect of parameters on the stability of structure are obtained.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, the necessary theoretical analysis for the approximation boundary element method to solve dynamical response of viscoelastic thin plate presented in [1] is discussed. The theorem of existence and uniqueness of the approximate solution and the error estimation are also obtained. Based on these conclusions, the principle for choosing the mesh size and the number of truncated terms in the fundamental solution are given. It is shown that the theoretical analysis in this paper are consistent with the numerical results in [1].

    Description: Mn-doped (Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 ) 0.94 Ba 0.06 TiO 3 (MnBNBT) thin films were prepared on SrRuO 3 (SRO)-coated (001) SrTiO 3 (STO) single crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition under different processing conditions. Structural characterization (i.e., XRD and TEM) confirms the epitaxial growth of STO/SRO/MnBNBT heterostructures. Through the judicious control of deposition temperature, the defect level within the films can be finely tuned. The MnBNBT thin film deposited at the optimized temperature exhibits superior ferroelectric and piezoelectric responses with remanent polarization P r of 33.0 μC/cm 2 and piezoelectric coefficient d 33 of 120.0 ± 20 pm/V.

    Description: Gentamicin may cause acute kidney injury. The pathogenesis of gentamicin nephrotoxicity is unclear. Autophagy is a highly conserved physiological process involved in removing damaged or aged biological macromolecules and organelles from the cytoplasm. The role of autophagy in the pathogenesis of gentamicin nephrotoxicity is unclear. The miniature pigs are more similar to humans than are those of rodents, and thus they are more suitable as human disease models. Here we established the first gentamicin nephrotoxicity model in miniature pigs, investigated the role of autophagy in gentamicin-induced acute kidney injury, and determined the prevention potential of rapamycin against gentamicin-induced oxidative stress and renal dysfunction. At 0, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days after gentamicin administration, changes in autophagy, oxidative damage, apoptosis and inflammation were assessed in the model group. Compared to the 0-day group, gentamicin administration caused marked nephrotoxicity in the 10-day group. In the kidneys of the 10-day group, the level of autophagy decreased, and oxidative damage and apoptosis were aggravated. After rapamycin intervention, autophagy activity was activated, renal damage in proximal tubules was markedly alleviated, and interstitium infiltration of inflammatory cells was decreased. These results suggest that rapamycin may ameliorate gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity by enhancing autophagy. Scientific Reports 5 doi: 10.1038/srep11256

    Description: Graphene oxide (GO)/polyvinyl butyral (PVB) nanofibers were prepared by a simple electrospinning technique with PVB as matrix and GO as a functional nanomaterial. GO/PVB nanofibers on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were reduced through electrochemical method to form reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/PVB nanofibers. The morphology and structure of GO/PVB nanofiber were studied by scanning election microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). RGO/PVB modified GCE was used for fabricating an electrochemical sensor for detecting Cu (II) in water. The analysis results showed that RGO/PVB modified GCE had good analytical results with the linear range of 0.06–2.2 μM, detection limit of 4.10 nM (), and the sensitivity of 103.51 μAμM−1cm−2.

    Description: Background: Pelgipeptin, a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent, is a non-ribosomally synthesised lipopeptide antibiotic. This compound consists of a beta-hydroxy fatty acid and nine amino acids. To date, there is no information about its biosynthetic pathway. Results: A potential pelgipeptin synthetase gene cluster (plp) was identified from Paenibacillus elgii B69 through genome analysis. The gene cluster spans 40.8 kb with eight open reading frames. Among the genes in this cluster, three large genes, plpD, plpE, and plpF, were shown to encode non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS), with one, seven, and one module(s), respectively. Bioinformatic analysis of the substrate specificity of all nine adenylation domains indicated that the sequence of the NRPS modules is well collinear with the order of amino acids in pelgipeptin. Additional biochemical analysis of four recombinant adenylation domains (PlpD A1, PlpE A1, PlpE A3, and PlpF A1) provided further evidence that the plp gene cluster involved in pelgipeptin biosynthesis. Conclusions: In this study, a gene cluster (plp) responsible for the biosynthesis of pelgipeptin was identified from the genome sequence of Paenibacillus elgii B69. The identification of the plp gene cluster provides an opportunity to develop novel lipopeptide antibiotics by genetic engineering.

    Description: The unstable equilibrium points of the fractional-order Lorenz chaotic system can be controlled via fractional-order derivative, and chaos synchronization for the fractional-order Lorenz chaotic system can be achieved via fractional-order derivative. The control and synchronization technique, based on stability theory of fractional-order systems, is simple and theoretically rigorous. The numerical simulations demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.
