Description / Table of Contents: Übersicht Die Erkennung kleiner, ebener Querrisse in Rotoren ist schwierig.
Notes: Summary The detection of small transverse cracks in rotating shafts is difficult. An advanced vibration monitoring method is proved in laboratory tests. It bases on an angle dependent sampling of the vibrational data and the comparison with a reference signal of the undamaged rotor. A finite crack element is developed from a spatial finite element analysis and is used for numerical simulations of the dynamic behaviour of cracked rotors. The results of the numerical simulations are compared with experimental data.

Notes: Summary Friction-induced self-sustained oscillations, also known as stick-slip vibrations, occur in mechanical systems as well as in everyday life. On the basis of a one-dimensional map, the bifurcation behaviour including unstable branches is investigated for a friction oscillator with simultaneous self-and external excitation. The chosen way of mapping also allows a simple determination of Lyapunov exponents.

Notes: Summary  The steady-state response of an elastic beam on a visco-elastic layer to a uniformly moving constant load is investigated. As a method of investigation the concept of “equivalent stiffness” of the layer is used. According to this concept, the layer is replaced by a 1D continuous foundation with a complex stiffness, which depends on the frequency and the wave number of the bending waves in the beam. This stiffness is analyzed as a function of the phase velocity of the waves. It is shown that the real part of the stiffness decreases severely as the phase velocity tends to a critical value, a value determined by the lowest dispersion branch of the layer. As the phase velocity exceeds the critical value, the imaginary part of the equivalent stiffness grows substantially. The dispersion relation for bending waves in the beam is studied to analyze the effect of the layer depth on the critical (resonance) velocity of the load. It is shown that the critical velocity is in the order of the Rayleigh wave velocity. The smaller the layer depth, the higher the critical velocity. The effect of viscosity in the layer on the resonance vibrations is studied. It is shown that the deeper the layer, the smaller this effect.

Notes: Abstract The following overview on non-smooth dynamical systems is given from an application point of view. The aim is to show that real world problems often lead to non-smooth systems and, thus, there is a need to deal with such problems. Moreover, further work shall be stimulated by demonstrating some examples of practical relevance. At present, non-smooth systems are a challenge to engineers and mathematicians as well.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Methods are developed to investigate the dynamical behaviour of magnetically levitated vehicles on flexible guideways. Starting with the analysis of vehicle, suspension and guideway the mathematical model of the closed-loop system is obtained in a systematic way. The results are linear state equations with periodically time-varying coefficients and jumping states. They underlie the evaluation of stability conditions and steady-state responses as well as numerical simulation procedures. The efficiency of the methods is demonstrated by an example.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary An analytical approximation is presented for the deflections of a beam under a sequence of equal and equally spaced moving loads. The comparison with numerical simulation results shows an excellent agreement. The efficiency of the method is demonstrated by an explicitely solved special case.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The dynamic analysis of random vehicle vibrations and the consequences especially to human comfort requires an integrated investigation of guideway roughness, nonlinear vehicle dynamics and human response to vibration exposure. Therefore, the complete system is characterized in the frequency as well as in the time domain. Multi-axle excitation inputs are included in the vehicle dynamics. Nonlinearities are considered by statistical linearization techniques. Then, the variances of wheel load variation, car body acceleration and human perception are determined by spectral analysis in frequency domain as well as by covariance analysis in time domain. Comparing both methods the covariance analysis is favourable for linear and, particularly, for nonlinear problems. Its efficiency is illustrated by the random vibration analysis of a nonlinear automobile model.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary By impulsive parametric excitation we mean those excitations which may be represented in a mathematical model by periodic coefficients consisting of periodic sequences of Dirac functions. Some examples for this typ of excitation are given. The aim of the paper is the analysis of periodic systems with impulsive parametric excitation regarding deterministic and stochastic disturbances. For that the common simulation techniques are used beside the methods based on Floquet's theory, which are extended to the given system typ. The benefit of the latter methods is a reduction of integration time to only one period.
