    Notes: Summary Five copolymers from N-(hydroxyethyl)ethyleneimine as nucleophilic monomer and phenylsuccinic anhydride (PhSAn) as electrophilic monomer, were synthesized according to the spontaneous copolymerization concept. These copolymers were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The copolymer composition determined from the 1H-NMR spectra showed that the copolymers are not alternating. According to all the data, it was suggested a copolymer structure which includes ester and anhydride bonds. The molecular weights determined by vapor pressure osmometry ranged between 5.100 and 6.100 g/mol.

    Notes: Summary The copolymerization of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ethyleneimine, (HEEI) as nucleophilic monomer and maleic anhydride (MA) as electrophilic monomer in the absence of initiator in acetonitrile was investigated. Copolymers were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The copolymer composition depends on the monomer ratio in the feed, determined by 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The presence of MA bridges between copolymer chains was established by spectroscopic analysis. At lower temperature the yield and molecular weight of copolymers decrease as well as the MA unit content in the copolymer.

    Notes: Summary The copolymers obtained by the spontaneous reaction between 2-methyl-oxazoline (MN) and succinic anhydride (ME) are analyzed. The copolymerization takes place at 45 °C in CH3CN without added initiator. The composition of the copolymer was determined by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The scheme of the copolymerization was presented. The genetic zwitterion is not the only species responsible for the propagation as it is deduced from the composition of the copolymers obtained, although its participation in the propagation is important.

    Notes: SUMMARY Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) was investigated as a novel extracting agent. The metal ion extraction properties for Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Hg(II), Cr(III) and Fe(III) were investigated using the liquid-liquid solvent extraction technique (bath method). The metal ion interactions with the polymer were determined as a function of the pH as well as the kinetic characteristic and stripping. For copper ions pH 4 was the optimum extracting pH value, and the 2M hydrochloride acid was better than nitric acid as a stripping agent.

    Notes: Summary The α-phenyl-α-alkyl-β-propiolactones (alkyl groups =-CH2CH3; -CH2CH2CH3; -CH2CH2CH2CH3) were synthesized and polymerized by anionic ring-opening polymerization by tetra-ethylammonium benzoate (non-chiralic initiator). It was found that the molecular weight of polylactones increased as the size of the alkyl substituent increased. Poly(α-propyl-α-phenyl-β-propiolactone) showed the highest melting temperature. Lactones polymerized using tetraethylammonium dibenzoiltartrate (chiralic initiator) gave polyesters with higher melting temperature than those obtained with a non-chiralic initiator under the same conditions.

A partial hydrolisis of pendant groups -COCH2CH3 is observed. The composition and the hydrolisis degree of the copolymers was determined by 1H-NMR. A copolymerization scheme via zwitterion is proposed.

The copolymers were statistical rich in 2-methyl-2-oxazoline and the -COCH3 groups are partially hydrolized. The composition and the degree of hydrolysis of the copolymers were determined by 1H-NMR. 13C-NMR proved that the hydrolisis did not occur during the polymerization process. A scheme of copolymerization via zwitterion is presented.
