Summary Glass transition temperatures of poly(phenyl methacrylates) and poly(diphenyl itaconats) with one and two methyl substituents in the phenyl ring were determined by DSC. Within the group of 17 investigated polymers it was attempted to correlate the Tg values obtained with the polymer repeat unit structure, considering steric effects and dipole/dipole interactions, inherent to various modes of (di)substitution.
