Notes:
A simple superposition technique is utilized to account for the end effects of a flat ends falling cylinder viscometer. The technique is only applicable for Newtonian fluids. The method consists of adding the pressure and shear forces and wall correction factor of a falling disc to the sidewall shear solution of a cylinder of infinite length. The results agree within 0.6% with a recently reported numerical solution which considered the total flow field around the cylinder and whose calculated end correction factor was determined by experiment to be accurate within 0.5%. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
