    Description: 1. The interruption of plant-pollinator interactions may threaten global plant diversity, food security and ecosystem stability. Recent reports of strong declines in both insects and plants point to insect decline as a driver of plant decline. However, it is still unknown whether these trends are related as plants often produce seeds without the need for insect pollinators, and to what extent insect-pollinated plants have declined in relation to plants not pollinated by insects. 2. In this study, we hypothesise that natural plant communities have shifted away from insect-pollination. We combined 365,768 vegetation plots from 1930 to 2017 in the Netherlands and plant traits to assess the changes in occurrences of plants pollinated by different modes. Furthermore, we included key drivers in plant decline—specifically nitrogen, moisture and habitat types—as interaction factors to explore the persistence of the observed changes under different environmental conditions. 3. The proportion of insect-pollinated plants has declined while that of wind-pollinated plants has increased over the last 87 years. This proportional change reflects an absolute decrease in the number of insect-pollinated species and an increase in the number of wind-pollinated species. 4. Synthesis and applications. This study implies that Dutch landscapes are losing insect-pollinated plant species, which is likely due, at least in part, to the decline in pollination services. Our results of quantifying the decline in insect-pollinated plants support the necessity and urgency of taking conservation initiatives. Several management strategies and policy recommendations could be applied to alleviate the decline of insect-pollinated plants and ensure crop safety. For example, conserving natural environments by reducing nitrogen deposition may support local plants and insect pollinators. Additionally, there is a particular need for focused efforts to protect natural grasslands, as these areas harbour many insect-pollinated plants, which have experienced declines. Finally, monitoring and assessing the state of both pollinators and (insect-pollinated) plants is needed to assess the progress of conservation measures. While recognising the interdependence of pollinators and pollinated plants, it is crucial to extend efforts beyond pollinator conservation alone to effectively safeguard insect- pollinated plants and ensure crop safety.

    Description: By controlling various friction stir spot-welded (FSSW) factors, two base sheets AA 5052-H32 and 6061-T6 were selected to bond similar and dissimilar metal joints while considering dissimilar configuration orders. The effects of weld parameters on the sheer strength and peel strength were separately developed into empirical models utilizing the integrated central composite matrix design and response surface methodology (RSM). Meanwhile, the finite element (FE) analysis of the multi-axis load-bearing characteristics for automotive solder joints during service was carried out. As a result, the weights of the shear and axial stress, accounting for 90.5% and 9.5% respectively, were employed to restrict the relationship between multiple target properties, and the resulting security strength was applied to determine the feasible domain in subsequent parametric optimization. In order to enable the optimal multi-axis capacities in accordance with the load mode, the genetic algorithm NSGA-II was chosen to compute the Pareto front and further determine the best compromise solutions. The obtained optimums corresponding to each joining condition were validated by confirmation runs, indicating that this coupled multi-objective optimization approach based on working conditions was beneficial to the targeted improvement of post-weld mechanical properties.

    Description: In this work, the tensile-shear mechanical behaviors of friction stir spot weld and adhesive hybrid joint were performed from both numerical and experimental viewpoints. Weld through (WT) and flow in (FI) processes were studied in this research. The focus was to evaluate joint defects, tensile-shear failure load (TSFL), failure energy, failure mode and stress distribution of the joint. In FI joints, keyhole and hook defects appeared in the weld zone and the areas of material removed from the base metal were filled with adhesive. In the WT joints, the adhesive layer close to the weld zone was carbonized due to the welding heat. Meanwhile, under the rotating movement of welding tool, the adhesive impurities entered the stirring zone (SZ) and heat affected zone (HAZ) of the weld, which decreased mechanical performances of WT joints. Compared to the friction stir spot welding (FSSW) joint, the TSFL value, stiffness and failure energy of FI joint were increased by 2.7, 1.1 and 8.14 times, respectively. In order to study the stress distribution of the joints, a finite element (FE) model, which considered the weld structure and mechanical properties of weld regions, was implemented. Moreover, the adhesive layer was simplified by the cohesive zone model (CZM). FE results show that the FI process effectively decreases the stress concentration of the weld edge from 243.09 to 15.5 MPa, under the 2 kN tensile load. The weld can block the adhesive crack propagation, and the adhesive optimized the stress distribution of FI joints through a synergistic effect. So, the use of FI process for aluminum alloy connection is strongly recommended, especially in crucial structure areas.
