Notes: [Auszug] The hypothalami and other brain regions were removed during routine autopsies carried out at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Tel Aviv. The tissues were obtained from three 22-40-yr-old females and twelve 41-95-yr-old males, most of them killed in road accidents. The bodies were kept for 6-48 h ...

Notes: Abstract Two numerical approximations of the three-dimensional Laplacian Operator at a point are each obtained in a form which is suitable for computation at nodes generated in an automatic decomposition of an arbitrary three-dimensional region. The first expression is derived by an extension of a technique previously developed for two-dimensional configurations and is shown to generalise the well known Cartesian form. The second approximation, which assumes a linear dependence of the scalar field on certain nodal values of this field, and for which a variational justification is established, also reduces to the Cartesian form for a particular arrangement of surrounding nodes.

Notes: Vector functions having a constant or zero divergence over a quadrilateral domain are derived using a parametric co-ordinate formulation. Expansion functions with a constant curl, defined over parallelograms and triangles, which can be used in moments-based investigations of electromagnetic wave interactions with surfaces and apertures, are then obtained. Finally, two basis functions, which have appeared in the literature and have been used to solve field problems associated with rectangular apertures and arbitrary surfaces, are identified as special cases of these expansion functions.

Notes: A numerical approximation for the two-dimensional Laplacian operator at a point is derived for the general case in which the point is surrounded by an arbitrary number of arbitrarily located coplanar nodes. The expression obtained is shown to generalize the usual Cartesian finite difference expression.

Notes: If the resistance of a conductor is negligible compared with the reactance and if radiation effects are ignored the inductance and current distribution may be obtained by using perfectly-conducting models. In this paper the distribution of current in a system of infinitely-long, perfectly-conducting straight conductors of arbitrary cross-section is shown to satisfy an integral equation of Fredholm type and a general digital procedure for solving this equation, and hence for determining inductance, is given. The relative advantages of stepped, piecewise-linear and piecewise quadratic approximations to the current distribution are studied using arrangements of strip conductors and of isolated rectangular conductors having known current distributions. The advantageous effect of varying the width of the sections used in the computation is also established. It is shown that inductance estimates accurate to within 0·1 per cent can be obtained with a relatively small number of sections and that for a large number of sections the inductance converges on the theoretical value. The paper also examines current distribution and inductance for ‘go-and return’ systems of rectangular conductors, as well as for two paralleled conductors with remote return, and compares the inductances obtained with previous derivations.

Notes: In a previous paper1 a method was described for computing the current distribution and inductance of systems of infinitely-long, perfectly-conducting, straight conductors. The method relied on the solution of a Fredholm Integal equation of the first kind, and in the present paper the method is extended to equations of the second kind in order to study the inductance and a.c. resistance factor of resistive for which approximate formulas and experimental results exist, with which the method is in good agreement over a range of grequencies of particular practical practical interest. Results have also been obtained for rectangular conductors connected in parallel.

Notes: Two generalized finite difference representations of the n-dimensional Laplacian operator are obtained vectorialiy by extensions of the techniques previously developed for three-dimensional space. Each representation is presented in a form which can readily be applied at the nodes generated in an automatic decomposition of an n-dimensional region. The finite difference expressions for the Laplacian are applied to the n-dimensional sphere, as well as to certain important polytopes for which detailed algebraic descriptions are provided.

Notes: Exact expressions are presented for the potentials, at an arbitrary point in space, due to two quadratic distributions in a triangular disc. These expressions are obtained by means of extensions of the analytical techniques previously developed for evaluating the potential integrals for constant and linear distributions. It is shown that the potential due to any quadratic distribution in a triangle may be obtained by using the two expressions derived here, together with an expression for the potential corresponding to a linear distribution. This latter expression was presented in an earlier paper.1 Numerical values obtained through the use of the two expressions are compared with those which result from the numerical evaluation of the potential integrals by triangle quadratures.
