Conclusions 1. In surface surveys for high rolled-fill earth dams it is impossible to neglect investigations of seepage inhomogeneity and anisotropy of foundations. 2. A reliable joining of a high rolled-fill earth dam with the foundation is achieved by a good quality of excavation work, use of rigorously controlled blasting, and proper combination of grouting and concrete and Gunite coatings at the contact of the core with the rocks, which provide homogeneity of the strength and seepage properties of the union. 3. In the foundations of cores in high dams it is necessary to construct galleries for grouting and drainage, both during the course of construction and during operation of the structures.
