    Notes: Abstract It is shown that the correlation between the separation on the sky of certain QSO's and the nearest bright galaxy to them with the galaxy's redshift could be an artifact of the sampling procedure or small number statistics. The overall association between 3C QSO's and bright galaxies remains as suggestive, but not compelling, evidence for a physical relationship.

    Notes: Abstract The growth rate of the relativistic firehose instability is an order of magnitude smaller, near marginal instability, for plasmas with particle energy spectraN(E)dE∞E −2.5dE than for those withN(E)dE∞E −3dE. If cosmic rays are accelerated impulsively in limited regions, with initially flat spectra, the sudden increase in the firehose growth rate could lead to release of the particles when the spectrum has steepened beyond exponent 2.5.
