    Notes: Abstract The crystal morphology of the weld lines in injection moulded polypropylene parts has been investigated by X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Wide angle X-ray scattering curves reveal two crystal modifications in the samples: the monoclinic α-modification and the hexagonal β-modification. The fraction of the crystallinity which is due to the β-modification is lower in the vicinity of the weld line and increases with the distance from the weld line. Transmission electron micrographs reveal that in the weld line no crystallization of β-spherulites occurs.

    Description / Table of Contents: Ultrasonic Attenuation Measurements of a Maraging SteelThe objective of this study was to investigate the influence of nm-precipitation of a precipitation hardening steel on the ultrasonic attenuation. The applied steel X 2 NiCoMo 1885 was solution annealed and subsequently precipitation hardened at 480 °C at different holding times. A clear correlation between ultrasonic attenuation coefficient for 4 Mc and hardness values measured in the range of the hardness increase can be seen. The particle density of the microstructure given is considered as the common cause of the influence of both parameters. The increase in the particle density leads to a decrease in the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The reneward increase in the US-attenuation coefficient may additionally be influenced by the beginning austenit reformation and has not been investigated in more details here.
    Notes: Im Rahmen der hier durchgeführten Untersuchungen wurde der Einfluß von Ausscheidungen im nm-Bereich auf die Ultraschallschwächung an einem ausscheidungshärtenden Stahl untersucht. Der verwendete Stahl X 2 NiCoMo 1885 wurde lösungsgeglüht und anschließend bei 480 °C bei verschiedenen Zeiten ausgehärtet. Die gemessenen Härtewerte im Bereich des Härteanstiegs und der Ultraschall-Schwächungskoeffizient für 4 MHz zeigen eine eindeutige Korrelation. Als gemeinsame Ursache für die Beeinflussung beider Parameter wird die im Gefüge vorliegende Teilchendichte angesehen. Die Zunahme der Teilchendichte führt zu einer Abnahme des US-Schwächungskoeffizienten. Der erneute Anstieg des US-Schwächungskoeffizienten kann zusätzlich durch die einsetzende Austenitrückbildung beeinflußt werden und wurde daher hier nicht näher untersucht.

    Description / Table of Contents: Tracking ResistanceThe Standard methods for the determination of the Tracking resistance are discussed and from 36 different insulating-materials the “KB” value is measured, with electrode distances of 1, 2, 3 and 4 mm. From the results a change in the V.D.E. Standard 0110 definitions for the measurement of cleakage and air distances of electrical working materials is proposed: The “KA” value should be substituted by the “KB” value and the “KB” value should be specified for the 1 mm and 4 mm electrode distances.
    Notes: Die genormten Methoden zur Bestimmung der Kriechstromfestigkeit werden diskutiert und an 36 verschiedenen Isolierstoffen die KB-Werte mit einem Elektrodenabstand von 1, 2, 3 und 4 mm gemessen. Aufgrund der Ergebnisse wird eine Änderung der VDE-Vorschrift 0110 “Bestimmungen für die Bemessung der Kriech und Luftstrecken elektrischer Betriebsmittel” vorgeschlagen: KA-Werte sollen durch KB-Werte ersetzt und die KB-Werte für 1 mm und 4 mm Elektrodenabstand angegeben werden.

    Description / Table of Contents: Acoustic Emission Measurements of Coated Sheet SteelAcoustic emission measurements of differently coated steel sheets have shown that the damaging behaviour of this group of materials can be investigated with the aid of this procedure.With electroplated sheets, the acoustic emission at the same basical material depends on: (a)the deposit metal(b)the composition of the electrolytes(c)the deposite current density(d)the thickness of the electrodeposit.Investigations carried out on phosphatized and/or painted steel sheets have shown a dependently of the acoustic emission on: (a)the kind of phosphatization(b)the chemical composition of the paint(c)the level of the stoving temperature(d)the weathering(e)the thickness of the paint.On the hitherto investigations the acoustic emission was registered only as impuls rate. In order to obtain more aimed statements on the failure of adhesions and on the formations of micro-cracks, and in order to elucidate the mechanisms of adhesion and failure of adhesions, the analysis of the amplitudes and frequencies of the acoustic emission of coated metals was started.
    Notes: Die Schallemissionsmessungen an unterschiedlich beschichteten Stahlblechen zeigten, daß es mit Hilfe dieses Verfahrens möglich ist, das Schädigungsverhalten dieser Werkstoffgruppe zu untersuchen.Bei den galvanisch beschichteten Blechen war die Schallemission bei gleichem Substrat abhängig von: (a)dem abgeschiedenen Metall(b)der Zusammensetzung des Elektrolyten(c)der Abscheidungsstromdichte(d)der Schichtdicke.Die Untersuchungen an den phosphatierten und/oder lackierten Blechen zeigten eine Abhängigkeit der Schallemission von: (a)der Art der Phosphatierung(b)der chemischen Zusammensetzung des Lackes(c)der Höhe der Einbrenntemperatur(d)der Bewitterung(e)der Schichtdicke.Bei den bisherigen Untersuchungen wurde die Schallemission lediglich als Impulsrate registriert. Um gezieltere Aussagen über Enthaftungen und Rißbildungen zu ermöglichen und um Haftungsmechanismen über die Enthaftungsvorgänge aufzuklären wurde begonnen, Amplituden- und Frequenzanalysen der Schallemission von beschichteten Metallen vorzunehmen.

    Description / Table of Contents: Influence of the Manufacturing Process of Double V-Notches of the Test SpecimensIn connexion with DIN 53 753 „Impact bending test on a test specimen with a hole-notch or double V-notch“ tests were carried out on test specimen whose notches had been manufactured by different procedures (by planing and by placing the notches into the injection mould). Four different thermoplastics - some of them short-glassfiber reinforced-were used. Proof was gained that all specimens with a notch radius of 0.5 mm will break and that hardly any differences between „planed“ and „injected“ notches will exist. With the possibility of selecting one particular radius it has become feasible to draw comparisons between the individual plastics as to their impact strengths. Microtome cuts, SEM-micrographs of the area of fracture and orientation measurements with the aid of a micropolariscope complete the investigations.
    Notes: Im Zusammenhang mit DIN 53 753 „Schlagbiegeversuch an Probekörpern mit Loch- oder Doppel-V-Einkerbung“ wurden Versuchen an Probekörpern mit unterschiedlichen Kerbradien (0,1; 0,2; 0,5 mm) durchgeführt und an Proben mit unterschiedlicher Herstellung der Kerben (durch Hobeln und durch Einbringen von Kerben in die Spritzgießform). Es wurden vier verschiedene Thermoplaste, zum Teil mit Kurzglasfaser verstärkt, eingesetzt. Es zeigte sich, daß bei der Verwendung von 0,5 mm Kerbradius alle untersuchten Proben brechen, und daß kaum Unterschiede zwischen „gehobelten“ und „eingespritzten“ Kerben bestechen. Durch die Wahl eines Radius sind Vergleiche zwischen einzelnen Kunststoffen hinsichtlich ihrer Schlagzähigkeit möglich geworden. Mikrotomschnitte, REM-Aufnahmen der Bruchfläche und Orientierungsmessungen unter dem Polarisierungsmikroskop ergänzen die Untersuchungen.

    Notes: When injection molding complex parts, often knit-lines are formed during the mold filling stage. These knit-lines are well-known as particularly critical regions in the mold when mechanically loaded. Using three test materials, polystyrene (PS), polycarbonate (PC) and polyoxymethylene (POM), the relationship between a design and a processing parameter and the effects of the knit-lines on the tensile properties of injection molded plates with holes is quantified by the variation of a socalled knit-line-factor ak1. Finally, for PS a comparison of the influence of knit-line-formation by a splitted melt stream and by multi-gating on the mechanical level is given.

    Description / Table of Contents: Summary The components of refrigerator oil and especially of oleoresin separated on colums can be further separated qualitatively into their components by thin-layer chromatography. By two-dimensional separation of the oleoresin five different components were ascertained none of which was identified individually.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die Bestandteile von Kältemaschinenölen und insbesondere an Säulen abgetrenntes Ölharz können qualitativ dünnschichtchromatographisch auf Reinheit überprüft bzw. weiter aufgetrennt werden. Bei der 2-dimensionalen Auftrennung des Ölharzes wurden 5 verschiedene Bestandteile festgestellt, die im einzelnen nicht identifiziert wurden.
