Conclusions 1. All three types of 3.5N reference electrodes can be used as class 1 standard electrodes and satisfy the requirements of the test scheme of [2]. However, the final choice of electrode type can be made only after special tests have been made on the characteristics of these electrodes under identical conditions and via a unified method. 2. The results show that selection enables one to use commercial electrodes of types ÉVP-08 and ÉVL-5M, which can be used as class 2 reference standard electrodes. 3. Estimates have been made of level of error of the pH as ±0.01 units in these electrodes. 4. At the present time, one has available pH scales with errors of ±0.002 pH units, so the new accuracy level imposes more rigid restrictions on electrode characteristics; there is a need to modify the test scheme and to introduce electrodes of three classes.
