Abstract The main features of the system water, vitamin E, lecithin and Phosal 75 SA was determined using optical microscopy and low angle x-ray diffraction. The results showed the lecithin/water lamellar liquid crystal to be retained when the lecithin was gradually replaced by Phosal 75 SA. The vitamin E was solubilized in the lamellar liquid crystals to a maximum level in the range of 15–20% by weight. The vitamin E intermingled with the amphiphile in the liquid crystal causing only minor structural changes.
