    Description: To identify Kraft liquor effects on spermatogenesis and sperm motility of Caspian kutums by using in vitro culture, the fish testis was incubated with 5, 10 and 15 % (V/V) of liquor for 3 and 6 days. The percentage of motile spermatozoa and its total duration were also measured. Adverse effects on testicular cells were more apparent with the increase of liquor concentrations. The mean size of spermatogonia and spermatocytes decreased significantly (p〈0.001) in dose-dependent manner compared to controls. With the increase of concentration, the number of spermatocytes and spermatids decreased (p〈0.001) but the number of spermatogonia, increased (p〈 0.05). The increase of liquor concentration showed a significantly decrease of percentage of motile spermatozoa and total duration of spermatozoa (p〈0.05) but there was no significant difference in most treatments (p〉0.05). This study showed the detrimental effects of low levels of kraft liquor on testicular development and sperm quality in the kutums.

    Description: The probiotic effects of inactive yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. ellipsoideus was studied on growth performance, survival and intestinal microbiota of beluga juveniles (Huso huso). The study was done in complete randomize design that included feeding of beluga juveniles with diets supplemented with 0 (control), 1, 2 and 5% yeast (4 treatments with 3 replicates). Beluga juveniles (11.40±0.56g) were randomly allocated in 12 oval tanks at a density of 35 fish per tank and triplicate group were fed with experimental diets. At the end of the trial, growth factors (final weight, weight gain, SGR, CF) as well as feed conversion ratio (FCR), body composition (protein, lipid, ash, moisture) and intestinal microbiota (total viable bacteria and Lactobacillus spp. levels) were determined. Our results confirmed that juveniles fed on diet supplemented with 5% S. cerevisiae var. ellipsoideus had significantly higher final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR) and lower food conversion ratio compared to control and 1% treatment (P〈0.05). However, there were no significant differences between SGR of 5 and 2% yeast treatments (P〉0.05). The study of body composition showed no significant difference between treatments (P〉0.05). Total viable bacteria and Lactobacillus spp. count were significantly higher in 5% treatment compared to control (P〈0.05). However, there was no significant difference between Lactobacillus spp. levels in 5 and 2% treatments (P〉0.05).

    Description: Changes in gill histology and mortality rate of juvenile Caspian Sea Brown Trout Salmo trutta caspius Kessler-1877 in different weights and water salinities were studied. The indicators used in this study were the change in number and size of gill chloride cells as well as mortality rate of the juvenile trout. Juveniles weighing 2, 5, 10, 15 and 20 grams were directly transferred into water with salinities of 0, 4,8 and 12.5 gait and kept for 120 hours. Histological assessment showed that the number of gill chloride cells increases with the increase in weight and their size increases invisibly. Also, we found that the number of gill chloride cells is increased when salinity increases while the size of the cells undergoes an invisible downward trend. During the 120 hour test, mortality rate of the juveniles weighing 2 to 20 grams was zero in water salinities ranging 0 to 12.5 grilit. This supports the fact that the fish have a remarkable adaptability to changes in the environmental condition. Considering changes in the histology and mortality rate, it is concluded that the proper weight for release of juvenile Caspian Sea Brown Trout is 10 grams and the best water salinities is in the range 8-12.5 gr/lit, the same value found in the estuary.

    Description: We studied rainbow trout eggs requirements to macro elements Ca, Mg, Na and K at different stages of incubation period. The research was carried out at Namroud rainbow trout hatchery center in winter 2005. Two incubators in equal conditions were selected. The first was stocked with approximately 60000 eggs and the second had no eggs. A total of 100 fertilized eggs were sampled and assessed for the elements before introduction of the eggs to the incubator. Weekly samples were taken from the eggs and water of the first and second incubator. The sampled eggs were digested by Tripathi method and concentration of the elements in eggs extract was measured by ICP apparatus. In addition, variation of these elements between input and discharge water of both incubators was investigated.

After 7 weeks feeding on experimental diets hematological parameters, metabolic products (cholesterol, glucose and total protein) and serum enzymes (lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) were measured. Compared to the control group (0% oligfructose), oligofructose had no effects on red blood cell counts (RBC), mean corposcular volume (MCV), mean cellular hemoglobin concentration (MCH) or mean cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) (P〉0.05). However, hematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin concentration (Hb) and leucocyte counts (WBC) were significantly higher in fish fed 2% oligofructose (P〈0.05). Although serum glucose and total protein remained unaffected, cholesterol was significantly lower in the 2% oligofructose group (P〈0.05). Our results showed oligofructose had no significant effects on serum lactate dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase (P〉0.05). These results indicate an immunomodulatory effect and the potential to reduce serum cholesterol levels in beluga sturgeon.

    Description: The aims of the present study were to examine bioaccumulation of heavy metals copper, zinc, iron and manganese in rainbow trout eggs at different stages of incubation period and to compare the results with those of the EPA standards. The research was carried out at Firoozkooh Namroud Rainbow Trout Hatchery Center. For this purpose, two incubators with the same condition as experimental units were selected, one of them was the experimental incubator with approximately 60000 eggs and the other one had no eggs as the control. Sampling of eggs and water during incubation period was conducted weekly. The results showed significant differences (P0.05) in the control incubator. This indicates that eggs have absorbed these elements from incubation water and then showed increasing trend for Zn and Fe elements concentration in dry weight egg extract during incubation stages but increasing trend in Mn and Cu elements went on until the third stage. The results indicate that threshold concentrations for Mn and Cu in egg cause egg resistance against more absorption of these elements. Also, the results showed that at all sampling stages, concentration of the studied elements was lower than EPA standards for animal textures.
