    Description: The genus Alyxia is revised for Continental Asia and Malesia as the first part of a complete revision of the genus. Intergeneric and infrageneric relationships are discussed, as are the morphological characters for the whole genus. Problematic species and areas in need of further study are highlighted. Keys and descriptions for the species are given. 69 species are recognised of which 12 are newly described. These new species are Alyxia celebica, A. globosa, A. graciliflora, A. kwalotabaa, A. lackii, A. longiloba, A. manusiana, A. minutiflora, A. muguma, A. papuana, A. uniflora and A. vera.

    Description: The genus Alyxia is revised for Australia and the islands of the Pacific Ocean as the second and final part of a complete revision of the genus. 39 species are recognised for this area of which three are new to science, two are new combinations and one is a new name. 14 species are found in Australia and its offshore territories, 21 species in New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands, and seven species in the other islands of the Pacific. There is relatively little overlap between regions: two species are found in Malesia and Australia; one species is found in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands; one species in Vanuatu and New Caledonia; and A. stellata is found in Australia, New Caledonia and into the Pacific as far as Hawaii and Henderson Island. Keys and descriptions for the species are given. Alyxia stellata and A. tisserantii are particularly variable and in need of further study. The new species are A. evansii D.J. Middleton,. A. solomonensis D.J. Middleton and A. veillonii D.J. Middleton; the new name is A. mucronata D.J. Middleton; and the new combinations are A. poyaensis (Boiteau) D.J. Middleton and A. tropica (P.I. Forst.) D.J. Middleton.

    Description: The closely related genera Aganonerion, Parameria and Urceola are revised. One species of Aganonerion is recognised. Three species of Parameria are recognised and Parameriopsis is included in synonymy. Ecdysanthera, Chavannesia, Xylinabaria, Hymenolophus, Parabarium, Pezisicarpus, Xylinabariopsis and Chunechites are included in synonymy of Urceola in which 16 species are recognised. Within Urceola one new species is described.

    Ecua, a new genus op Apocynaceae from Malesia (1996)

    Description: Whilst examining the specimens of Apocynaceae in Herbarium Bogoriense I came upon two unknown specimens which appeared to be species of Parsonsia. On further examination they turned out to belong to a new genus related to Parsonsia but differing from it in the stamens which are included within the corolla tube and the shape of the corolla, filaments and anthers. This is the second new genus recently discovered in Malesia, the first being Baharuia D.J. Middleton described from plants collected in Borneo and Sumatra.\nThe name of the genus is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek reference to the funding for my work on Malesian Apocynaceae, the European Currency Unit or ECU. The genus was launched during the opening of the Van Steenis Building by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands on June 11, 1996.
