Notes: Two types of Plastic ball Grid array packages, a225-lead full matrix array and a 256-lead perimeter array, were subjected to 168 hours of moisturepreconditioning at 85°C and 30% relative humidity followed by simulated infra-red reflow attemperature ramp rates of 1°C/s and 0.67°C/s. The packages were subsequently examined fordelamination and cracking using scanning acoustic microscopy and environmental scanning electronmicroscopy. At the higher ramp rate, delamination and cracking were observed in both packagetypes, originating in the die attach and propagating along the weakest interfaces. At the lower ramprate, a small amount of delamination was observed. This suggests that there is a critical ramp ratebelow which popcorn cracking does not occur.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von Keramikpulvern wurde untersucht.

Notes: Abstract A new process for the production of advanced ceramic powders has been studied. The process involves the chelation of a metal ion in solution by an organic acid polymer. Using FTIR, TG, DTG and DTA, the process for the formation of the organo-metallic complex and the decomposition to the metal oxide is reported. Effects of packing density on DTA are also discussed.

Description: Abstract The abundance and sources of ice‐nucleating particles, particles required for heterogeneous ice nucleation, are long‐standing sources of uncertainty in quantifying aerosol‐cloud interactions. In this study, we demonstrate near closure between immersion freezing ice‐nucleating particle number concentration (nINPs) observations and nINPs calculated from simulated sea spray aerosol and dust. The Community Atmospheric Model with constrained meteorology was used to simulate aerosol concentrations at the Mace Head Research Station (North Atlantic) and over the Southern Ocean to the south of Tasmania (Clouds, Aerosols, Precipitation, Radiation, and atmospherIc Composition Over the southeRN ocean campaign). Model‐predicted nINPs were within a factor of 10 of nINPs observed with an off‐line ice spectrometer at Mace Head Research Station and Clouds, Aerosols, Precipitation, Radiation, and atmospherIc Composition Over the southeRN ocean campaign, for 93% and 69% of observations, respectively. Simulated vertical profiles of nINPs reveal that transported dust may be critical to nINPs in remote regions and that sea spray aerosol may be the dominate contributor to primary ice nucleation in Southern Ocean low‐level mixed‐phase clouds.
