Abstract The paper presents materials reported at the XIIth International Colloquium on Mechanical Fatigue of Metals on March 12, 1994 in Miskolc. The validity of using high-cycle fatigue fracture strain criteria based on inelastic cyclic deformations of metals is analyzed, and some considerations concerning their refinement are discussed. Also a new method for the evaluation of metal inelasticity with higher resolution is considered.
