Notes: Abstract Palladium/silica catalysts of varying dispersities were submitted to the coking reaction with cyclopentane at 500°C. Temperature programmed oxidation curves reveal the presence of two peaks for carbon deposition on the metallic function: the first one near 250°C would correspond to coke deposited on palladium atoms of high coordination and the second one near 400°C would involve palladium atoms of low coordination.

Notes: Abstract A new bimetallic Pt-Sn compound [Pt(NH3)4][SnCl6] has been used as precursor for the preparation of supported Pt-Sn/Al2O3 catalysts. A comparison of a dried sample with that prepared by coimpregnation displays different behaviour in TPR, chemisorption. The initial catalytic activity properties were checked in the reactions of cyclohexane dehydrogenation and cyclopentane ring opening, whilen-hexane skeletal reactions were used to probe the quasisteady-state activity. The catalyst prepared via the Pt-Sn complex precursors exhibited some-what lower specific activity. This fact, together with enhanced olefin formation fromn-hexane was taken as an indication of lower amount of contiguous Pt atoms and some electronic interaction between Pt and Sn in that catalyst.

Notes: Abstract Reduced Pt/Al2O3 catalysts with different chloride contents were treated at different temperatures under oxygen flow. TPR and TPD studies of oxidized species show that at low Cl/Pt atomic ratio (⩽1) PtO2 is formed at low temperature (400–500 K) and is totally decomposed (900 K) yielding reduced metallic Pt and inducing metal sintering. At high Cl/Pt atomic ratio (⩾6) formation of stable (up to 1000 K) platinum oxichloride avoids metal sintering.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Coke deposition during cyclopentane reaction was investigated on Pt/Al2O3 catalysts of varying dispersity. For all working pressures the higher the metallic accessibility, the higher the amount of coke deposited on the catalyst. Nevertheless, coke deposited on the less dispersed catalysts is more toxic for the metallic function. An increasing metal accessibility improves the graphitization of coke on the support and so, prevent the deactivation of the metal of a bifunctional catalyst.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The effect of the activation conditions of Pt/Al2O3 catalysts has been investigated in the hydrogenation of benzene and in the hydrogenolysis of ethane. Whatever the conditions of calcination or reduction, specific activities of all catalysts for benzene hydrogenation remain constant. On the other hand, for identical dispersities, the cacination in a wet argon flow increases the specific activity of platinum for hydrogenolysis of ethane, pointing out the role of wet pretreatment on defect building or on the faceting of supported metallic catalysts.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The initial rate of carbon formation during cyclopentane reaction has been studied on different Pt/Al2O3 catalysts of varying metal dispersity. It has been shown that coke deposition on the metal is a structure sensitive reaction which is preferably produced on large metallic particles. On the other hand, coke deposition on the whole catalyst is relevant to cyclopentadiene formation and is a structure insensitive reaction since the initial rate of coke deposition on the whole catalyst is proportional to the metallic surface area.

Notes: Abstract Bimetallic Pd-Pt catalysts were prepared either by a surface redox reaction (RC catalysts) or by coimpregnation (CI catalysts). RC bimetallic catalysts show a higher sulfur resistance in the course of toluene hydrogenation in the presence of thiophene compared to monometallic palladium and CI bimetallic catalysts. A characterization of the RC catalysts by IR and EXAFS allows to propose a structure of the Pd-Pt crystallites which would explain these results.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Competitive hydrogenation of benzene and toluene on Pt was used in order to test the modifications of the electronic properties induced by sulfur adsorption or coke deposition on the metal. From measurements of the selectivities, it appears that sulfur adsorption on platinum induces a decrease in the electron density of the metal. Coke deposition acts in the oppositeway.
