Notes: Deep level transient spectroscopy and transport properties measurements were performed on close-spaced vapor transport deposited epitaxial GaAs. The deep EL2 donor level was consistently observed in all of the layers. A side band at around 300 K was found to be present in relatively high concentration close to the as-grown surface of the epitaxial films. The multilevel impurity model treatments suggest the existence of an off-stoichiometry-induced deep acceptor level, related to possible gallium vacancies, in As-rich GaAs.

Notes: CONTIN is a general-purpose program for inverting noisy linear algebraic and integral equations by means of inverse Laplace transform. This study explored the application of CONTIN analysis to determine the relaxation time distribution spectra for food gels, including gellan, carrageenan, whey protein, and gelatin gels, based on stress-relaxation data. CONTIN results represent the continuous relaxation time spectra when the number of the terms in the discrete Maxwell stress-relaxation model approached infinity. The CONTIN results for gellan gels were correlated to the texture properties of gels from compression tests with respect to the effects of calcium concentrations. CONTIN analysis may be a very effective tool in elucidating the microstructural properties of a hydrogel from mechanical testing.

Notes: Effects of citrate buffers at pH 3.5 and 5.0 on gelling temperatures of gellan solutions with 0.4–1.8% gellan and 1.5–60 mM Ca2+were studied. Partial dissociation of the carboxyl groups in gellan polymer in pH 3.5 solutions resulted in weakened gels. The pH 3.5 buffer exhibited weak chelating ability for Ca2+. The gelling temperature of gellan solutions at pH 3.5 was quantitatively related to polymer and cation concentrations using a similar model to that for gellan water solutions. The pH 5.0 buffer exhibited strong chelating ability. Gelling temperatures at pH 5.0 were generally lower than those at pH 3.5, except at low calcium concentrations.

Notes: Abstract Broad-line1H NMR study of desilicated zeolite ZSM-5 was carried out as a function of the number of adsorbed water molecules in amounts lower than or equal to that of the Brønsted acid sites. The dissociation coefficient of the acid OH groups, currently associated with the acid strength, was shown not to be affected by the selective removal of Si from the zeolite ZSM-5 framework which resulted in more Brønsted acid sites per unit surface area. On the other hand, by using MAS NMR, bridging Brønsted acid sites hydrogen-bonded to the zeolite framework were identified on the “anhydrous” surface of the desilicated ZSM-5. Moreover, MAS NMR spectra of the desilicated zeolite partially rehydrated showed the presence of some Lewis acid sites.

Notes: Abstract Triflic acid loaded Y-type zeolite appears to be as active as the Amberlysi 15 in the (gas phase) synthesis of MTBE. However, the zeolite catalyst produces less by-products and is more thermally stable than the resin based catalyst.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that even “pure” quartz, other silicas or aluminas can enhance the aromatization activity of a ZSM-5 zeolite. Incorporation of gallium oxide onto these supports increases further the production of aromatics. The use of supported gallium oxide co-catalyst obtained by co-evaporation of a colloidal silica and a Ga salt has led to extremely high aromatization performance for the hybrid catalyst.

Keywords: mesoporous materials from Ca-A zeolite by dealumination
Source: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000
Topics: Chemistry and Pharmacology , Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Production Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy, Traffic Engineering, Precision Mechanics
Notes: Abstract Three conventional methods of dealumination were tested on the alumina-rich Ca-A zeolite. The mild acid leaching and the hydrothermal treatment led to mesoporous materials with a sharp distribution of pore size in the 4 nm region. On the other hand, treatment with ammonium hexafluorosilicate resulted in materials with mesopores of 12 nm in size. The latter technique produced the best thermally resistant materials which exhibited also the largest void volume and the highest cation exchange capacity.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Adsorption capacities of zeolites are rapidly determined by a vapor sorption apparatus which can be used as an ultramicroporosimeter. From the sorption data, it is possible to calculate the zeolite affinities toward various adsorbates in comparison with water. The n-hexane affinity index of the new ZSM zeolites has values always higher than those of X, Y or Zeolon zeolites. This fact is attributed to the unusual framework structure of the silica-rich ZSM zeolites.
