Abstract We discuss the excitation of low-frequency (ωs ≪ νeme/mi) acoustic vibrations by a beam of transverse (rf) waves. It is found that under certain conditions the dispersion (and not simply the excitation increment) of the low-frequency acoustic vibrations is uniquely connected with the rf wave energy density.
