Notes: [Auszug] A. GLASER (Ann. d. Physik, 75.4, pages 459–488, and Ann. d. Physik, 78.4, 641–658), in determining the susceptibility of diamagnetic gases, noticed that, under a definite magnetic field, the susceptibility decreases as the pressure of the gas is decreased, approximately proportional to the ...

Notes: [Auszug] A BAND system consisting of six band-heads has been found in the region λλ2900–2200. It is different in nature from the two systems previously known for the molecule. The bands are double-headed, indicating that their emitter consists of an odd number of electrons, and thus they have been ...

Notes: [Auszug] EDER and Valenta in 1911 had observed some of the bands of copper oxide in the flame spectra of all copper salts. Hertenstein observed them in the flame of the arc in air in 1912. R. S. Mulliken (Phys. Rev., 26, 4; 1925) also noticed them while working on the spectrum of CuI as excited ...

Notes: [Auszug] IT iS found that different investigators using the same heterodyne null method differ widely in their results for the same substance. This is indicated from the results of different investigators in the cases of carbon dioxide, hydrogen suiphide, and methyl chloride. In a recent paper (Phys. ...

Notes: [Auszug] CR. M. OLMSTED noticed that magnesium oxide gives out a band spectrum consisting of several groups of bands (Diss. Bonn; 1906; Z. f. Wiss. Ph., 4, 255; 1906). He classified them into three groups: the first group consisting of bands from λ4900 downwards degrading towards violet; the second ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN the flame of the arc between carbon electrodes containing barium chloride or nitrate, a class of red-degrading bands appear between λ 4300 – λ 8000. These have been attributed to the oxide of barium and analysed into two systems with their (0,0) bands at 17,713 ν and 16,060 ν respectively. ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN NATURE of Feb. 9, F. Rasetti has published his observations on the Raman effect in carbon dioxide. He has found the lines at λ4639, λ4616 and λ4289, λ4268, excited respectively by the mercury lines at λ4358·343 and λ4046·560. These modified lines are due to the following transitions: ...
