Summary It is shown that a theoretically derived A2B3 type of structure and the Sc2S3 type of structure, which are both built from AB6-octahedra by edge sharing only and which, therefore, do not violate Pauling's third rule, are considerably less favorable than the corundum type from the point of view of electrostatic lattice energy. This is an example where the obedience to Pauling's third rule does not correspond to electrostatically favorable arrangements.

Zusammenfassung Es wird für einen theoretischen A2B3-Typ und den Sc2S3-Typ, die beide aus AB6-Oktaedern mit Verknüpfung nur über Kanten aufgebaut sind und die folglich beide die 3. Paulingsche Regel nicht verletzen, gezeigt, daß sie vom Standpunkt der elektrostatischen Gitterenergie deutlich ungünstiger sind als der Korund-Typ. Es liegt hier also ein Fall vor, wo die Befolgung der 3. Paulingschen Regel nicht elektrostatisch günstigen Anordnungen entspricht.
