Abstract The velocity of propagation of a flame, w, along the surface of flat or cylindrical samples of a polymer depends on the angle of inclination, φ, of the surface to the horizontal [1]. (Bibliography is given in [1].) According to [1], the increase in w with the increase in φ is due to the increase in the contribution of natural convection to the heat transfer from the flame to the unignited polymer.
