We investigated the ferroelastic domain switching due to stress in Pb3(PO4)2 single crystals grown by the Czochralski method. The temperature dependence of the stress–strain hysteresis was also studied. From this result, it was determined that the Pb3(PO4)2 single crystal undergoes a phase transition near Tc=180 °C. In other words, the phase transition due to an external mechanical stress applied to Pb3(PO4)2 crystals causes a transformation from the ferroelastic to the paraelastic phase. From these results, it was confirmed that Pb3(PO4)2 crystals have ferroelastic characteristics below Tc. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.
