Germaniumtetramethyl and dimethylgermanium dichloride undergo quantitative redistribution reactions in the presence of gallium trichloride, yielding trimethylgermanium chloride. This reaction, which opens a simple route to this important starting material for synthesizing other organogermanium derivatives, can be applied generally to other redistribution reactions in the systems GeX4, RGeX3, R2GeX2, R3GeX and R4Ge, which lead, depending on the reactants ratio, to the formation of nearly all other organogermanium halides (R = CH3, C2H5; X = Cl, Br).

Germaniumtetramethyl und Dimethylgermaniumdichlorid konproportionieren in Gegenwart katalytischer Mengen Galliumchlorid quantitativ unter Bildung von Trimethylgermaniumchlorid. Diese Reaktion, die erstmals einen sehr einfachen Zugang zu dieser wichtigen Ausgangsverbindung für die Synthese anderer Trimethylgermanylderivate gestattet, läß sich unter veränderten Reaktionsbedingungen allgemein auf Konproportionierungen innerhalb der Systeme GeX4, RGeX3, R2GeX2, R3GeX und R4Ge übertragen, die, abhängig vom Mischungsverhältnis, zur Bildung fast aller gewünschten Organogermaniumhalogenide führen (R = CH3, C2H5; X = Cl, Br).
