    Abstract: This book aims to establish a wind energy evaluation system, to provide scientific reference for site selection, daily operation and long-term planning of wind power generation, thus to make contribution to breaking the shackles of power shortage. Firstly, it presents the advantages and disadvantages of offshore wind power, then further discusses about the status quo and challenges for wind power programs along the Maritime Silk Road and offer suggestions. A wind energy evaluation system was proposed with the Maritime Silk Road as a case study, including climatic features of wind power (temporal-spatial distribution), long-term climatic trend and mechanism, short-term forecast of wind energy, mid- and long-term projection of wind energy, technology of wind energy evaluation on key point or vital region and offshore wind energy dataset construction, to provide systematic and scientific reference for wind power evaluation and utilization. This book is one of the series of publications on 21st century Maritime Silk Road (shortened as “Maritime Silk Road”). It covers the characteristics of the marine environment and marine renewable energy, remote islands and reefs construction, climate change, early warning of wave disasters, legal escort, marine environment and energy big data construction, etc., contributing to the safe and efficient construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It aims to improve our knowledge of the ocean, thus, to improve the capacity for marine construction, enhance the viability of remote islands and reefs, ease the energy crisis and protect the ecological environment, improve the quality of life of residents along the Maritime Silk Road, and protect the rights, interests of the countries and regions participating in the construction of the Maritime Silk Road. It is a valuable reference for decision-makers, researchers, and marine engineers working in the related fields.

    Notes: An inviscid, parallel, spatial linear stability analysis is performed on both bounded and semibounded developing mixing layers formed between a laminar Mach 8 stream and another at Mach 3. Three unstable modes have been found in the initial mixing zone of the unbounded flow. In the downstream region of this flow the slowest of these modes becomes stable, and the remaining two correspond to the fast and slow modes of the self-similar mixing layer. For the semibounded flow, a wall in the slow stream introduces a series of acoustic modes which replace the fast mode of the unbounded flow. For both the unbounded and the semibounded flows the largest growth rates belong to the slowest mode which resides in the developing region and is insensitive to the presence of the wall. The existence of this mode has been detected in a wind-tunnel experiment, at frequency ranges suggested by, and with maximum growth rates in agreement with, the theory. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Abstract Given a behavioral description of a DSP algorithm represented by a data-flow graph, we show how to obtain a rate-optimal static schedule with the minimum unfolding factor under two models, integral grid model and fractional grid model, and two kinds of implementations for each model, pipelined implementation and non-pipelined implementation. We present a simple and unified approach to deal with the four possible combinations. A unified polynomial-time scheduling algorithm is presented, which works on the original data-flow graphs without really unfolding. The values of the minimum rate-optimal unfolding factors and the general properties for all the four combinations are proved.

    Description: The BIG Data Center at Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences provides freely open access to a suite of database resources in support of worldwide research activities in both academia and industry. With the vast amounts of omics data generated at ever-greater scales and rates, the BIG Data Center is continually expanding, updating and enriching its core database resources through big-data integration and value-added curation, including BioCode (a repository archiving bioinformatics tool codes), BioProject (a biological project library), BioSample (a biological sample library), Genome Sequence Archive (GSA, a data repository for archiving raw sequence reads), Genome Warehouse (GWH, a centralized resource housing genome-scale data), Genome Variation Map (GVM, a public repository of genome variations), Gene Expression Nebulas (GEN, a database of gene expression profiles based on RNA-Seq data), Methylation Bank (MethBank, an integrated databank of DNA methylomes), and Science Wikis (a series of biological knowledge wikis for community annotations).     Description: Background: Maize is a major staple food crop globally and contains various concentrations of vitamins. Folates are essential water-soluble B-vitamins that play an important role as one-carbon (C1) donors and acceptors in organisms. To gain an understanding of folate metabolism in maize, we performed an intensive in silico analysis to screen for genes involved in folate metabolism using publicly available databases, followed by examination of the transcript expression patterns and profiling of the folate derivatives in the kernels of two maize inbred lines. Results: A total of 36 candidate genes corresponding to 16 folate metabolism-related enzymes were identified. The maize genome contains all the enzymes required for folate and C1 metabolism, characterized by highly conserved functional domains across all the other species investigated. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these enzymes in maize are conserved throughout evolution and have a high level of similarity with those in sorghum and millet. The LC-MS analyses of two maize inbred lines demonstrated that 5-methyltetrahydrofolate was the major form of folate derivative in young seeds, while 5-formyltetrahydrofolate in mature seeds. Most of the genes involved in folate and C1 metabolism exhibited similar transcriptional expression patterns between these two maize lines, with the highest transcript abundance detected on day after pollination (DAP) 6 and the decreased transcript abundance on DAP 12 and 18. Compared with the seeds on DAP 30, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate was decreased and 5-formyltetrahydrofolate was increased sharply in the mature dry seeds. Conclusions: The enzymes involved in folate and C1 metabolism are conserved between maize and other plant species. Folate and C1 metabolism is active in young developing maize seeds at transcriptional levels.

    Description: The crystal structure and microwave dielectric properties of a novel low-firing compound Li 2 Mg 2 W 2 O 9 were investigated in this study. The phase purity and crystal structure were investigated using X-ray diffraction analyses and Rietveld refinement. The best microwave dielectric properties of the ceramic with a low permittivity (ε r ) ~11.5, a quality factor ( Q  ×  f) ~31 900 GHz (at 10.76 GHz) and a temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency (τ f ) ~ −66.0 ppm/°C were obtained at the optimum sintering temperature (920°C). CaTiO 3 was added into the Li 2 Mg 2 W 2 O 9 ceramic to obtain a near zero τ f , and 0.93Li 2 Mg 2 W 2 O 9 –0.07CaTiO 3 ceramic exhibited improved microwave dielectric properties with a near-zero τ f ~ −1.3 ppm/°C, a ε r ~ 21.6, a high Q u   ×  f value ~20 657 GHz. The low sintering temperature and favorable microwave dielectric properties make it a promising candidate for LTCC applications.

    Description: A new lead-free BNT-based piezoelectric ceramics of (1 −  x ) Bi 0.5 Na 0.5 TiO 3 – x Bi ( Al 0.5 Ga 0.5 ) O 3 ( x  = 0, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04, and 0.05) were synthesized using a conventional ceramic fabrication method. Their structures and electrical properties were investigated. All the samples show a typical ferroelectric P ( E ) loops and S ( E ) curves at room temperature. The optimal properties are obtained at the composition of the x  = 0.03. The substitution of Bi ( Al 0.5 Ga 0.5 ) O 3 enhances piezoelectric constant and increases Curie temperature from 58 pC/N and 310°C of pure BNT to 93 pC/N and 325°C of the x  = 0.03. The temperature-dependent P ( E ) loops and S ( E ) curves of 0.97BNT–0.03BAG indicate that phase transition from ferroelectric to antiferroelectric takes place over a very wide temperature region from 80°C to 180°C. The results show that the introduction of BAG improves the electrical properties of BNT.

    Description: Polycrystalline BiFeO 3 (BFO) films are fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO 2 /Si(100) substrate as photoelectrode using sol-gel method. The microstructure, optical, and photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of the films are characterized and optimized by controlling the film thickness. Moreover, the PEC properties of the BFO films are dependent on ferroelectric polarization, which is mainly ascribed to the modulation of band structure at the BFO/electrolyte interface by the polarization. Further enhancement of PEC properties is obtained by decorating the samples with appropriate amounts of Ag nanoparticles, which is attributed to the reduced electron-hole recombination, and localized surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag nanoparticles.

    Description: Journal of Earthquake and Tsunami, Ahead of Print. 〈br/〉 The seismic performance of a steel pier of box section was studied through low-cycle cyclic testing. The damaged specimens were repaired by filling with concrete and welding steel plates. The low-cycle cyclic test was then repeated. The effects of repairs were investigated by comparison of failure mode, energy dissipation performance, and ductility before and after repair. To supplement the data, the influence of different factors on the seismic bearing capacity and ductility of steel piers were analyzed by finite element method. The repair effects were compared by threshold of the displacement from the experiment. Based on the displacement angle response of the nonlinear dynamic time history analysis, the seismic performance is checked. The results show that repair had favourable effects on the damaged specimens. The horizontal bearing capacity and ductility of the specimens filled with concrete are significantly enhanced. Reinforcement by steel plates can increase the ductility and cumulative energy dissipation of the steel pier. An axial compression ratio of 0.2 and a concrete filling ratio of 30% are suggested. The horizontal bearing capacity can be improved by increasing the steel strength while the concrete strength shows little effect. The angular displacement from nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis was less than the test threshold, so the existing methods used for seismic performance verification are safe.

    Description: Polaronic configurations that were introduced by oxygen vacancy in rutile TiO2 crystal have been studied by the DFT + U method. It is found that the building block of TiO6 will expand when extra electron is trapped in the central Ti atom as polaron. With manually adjusting the initial geometry of oxygen vacancy structure, a variety of polaronic configurations are obtained after variable-cell relaxation. By calculating different sizes of supercell model, it is found that the most stable configuration can be influenced by the density of oxygen vacancy. With increasing interaction between vacancies, the most stable polaronic configuration change from small polaronic configuration to mixed configuration.
