Notes: Abstract In order to study natural convection effects on fluid flows under low-gravity in space, we have expanded variables into a power series of Grashof number by using perturbation theory to reduce the Navier-Stokes equations to the Poisson equation for temperature T and biharmonic equation for stream function ϕ. Suppose that a square infinite closed cylinder horizontally imposes a specified temperature of linear distribution on the boundaries, we investigate the two dimensional steady flows in detail. The results for stream function ϕ, velocity u and temperature T are gained. The analysis of the influences of some parameters such as Grashof number Gr and Prandtl number Pr on the fluid motion lead to several interesting conclusions. At last, we make a comparison between two results, one from approximate equations, the other from the original version. It shows that the approximate theory correctly simplifies the physical problem, so that we can expect the theory will be applied to unsteady or three-dimensional cases in the future.

Notes: Abstract Standing waves in the cylinder basins with inhomogeneous bottom are considered in this paper. We assume that the inviscid, incompressible fluid is in irrotational undulatory motion. For convenience sake, cylindrical coordinates are chosen. The velocity potentials, the wave profiles and the modified frequencies are determined (to the third order) as power series in terms of the amplitude divided by the wavelength. Axisymmetrical analytical solutions are worked out. When ω1=0,the second order frequency are gained. As an example, we assume that cylinder bottom is an axisymmetrical paraboloid. We find out that the uneven bottom has influences on standing waves. In the end, we go into detail on geometric factors.

Notes: Summary Anaphylactic shock in rats may be provoked by an initial intravenous injection of fresh eggwhite. Previous administration of cortisone or desoxycorticosterone reduces the animals' resistance to the initial eggwhite injection, while adrenalectomy sharply decreases it. Cortisone restores the resistance reduced by adrenalectomy, while DOCS produces no appreciable effect. Resistance to eggwhite is also decreased on the 25th day after hypophysectomy, although to a smaller extent than in adrenalectomy. Different doses of ACTH employed at various intervals had no visible compensatory effect. The condition of tachyphylaxis occurred after the first injection of egg white. Preliminary cortisone and DOCS administration more or less preserved the ability to produce a tachyphylactic response.

Notes: We have previously shown (Zhou et al: Blood, 72:1870, 1988) that IL3, added with low concentrations of CSF-1 (1 ng/ml) to normal human CD34+ enriched cells, promoted the development of various types of colonies including those containing immature monocytes. However, when high concentrations of CSF-1 (20 ng/ml) were added alone or together with IL3, smaller colonies with mature macrophages were found. Here we show by in situ hybridization that IL3 allows the development, from CD34+ cells, of a subpopulation of immature progenitors which express the CSF-1 receptor (c-fms) mRNA. The expression of c-FMS protein was also substantiated by immunocytochemical studies using anti-c-fms antibody. The percentage of c-fms positive cells peaked at day 7 and began to decrease thereafter. When anti-CSF-1 antibodies were included in the culture, the decrease in c-fms mRNA after day 7 was abrogated. This indicated that endogenous CSF-1 was produced as CD34+ cells developed into monocytes or progenitors of monocytes and that CSF-1 modulates c-fms expression. We further demonstrated that when a high dose of CSF-1 (20 ng/ml) was added at day 7 to IL3-stimulated CD34+ cells, a rapid down-regulation of c-fms mRNA and protein was seen. No down-regulation was observed with low concentration of CSF-1 (1 ng/ml). The possibility that different concentrations of CSF-1 could modulate the development of monocytic progenitors is discussed. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

Description: For optimizing the reaction conditions of 2-methyl-6-ethylaniline (MEA) degradation catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase (HRP), a response surface methodology with three factors and three levels was used in this research to establish a regression model, a ternary quadratic polynomial, in order to analyze temperature, H2O2 concentration and pH effects on MEA removal efficiency. The results showed that the regression model was significant (p 〈 0.0001), fitted well with experimental data and had a high degree of reliability and accuracy, and the data were reasonable with low errors. By analyzing interactions and solving the regression model, the maximum MEA removal efficiency was 97.90%, and the optimal conditions were defined as follows: pH 5.02, H2O2 concentration 13.41mM, and temperature 30.95 °C. Under the optimal conditions, the average MEA removal efficiency obtained from the experiments was 97.56%. This research can provide reference for the treatment of actual acetochlor industrial wastewater.

Description: Author(s): Xiao-Hai Liu, Li Ma, Li-Ping Sun, Xiang Liu, and Shi-Lin Zhu We investigate the ratio of the branching fractions of the molecular candidates decaying into the ground and radially excited states within the quark-interchange model. Our numerical results suggest that these molecular candidates are more likely to decay into the radially excited states than into g... [Phys. Rev. D 90, 074020] Published Wed Oct 15, 2014
