Notes: Small amounts of Zn2+ and Ge4+ substituting for GeFe2O4 and ZnFe2O4, can efficiently increase the Neél temperature, thereby can be applied to magnetic device. The site preference of Fe2+ and Fe3+ in mixed ferrite ZnxGe1−xFe2O4 (X=0.6) with Mössbauer absorption and x-ray diffraction was studied. Analysis of x-ray diffraction indicates that the lattice constant is not in accord with Vegard's law, suggesting Fe2+ and Fe3+ are located not only at B sites but at A sites. It is found that Debye temperatures of GeFe2O4 and ZnFe2O4 are 380±5 K and 361±5 K from Mössbauer measurements. Zn2+ and Ge4+ randomly occupy A site or B site. Mössbauer spectra of Zn0.6Ge0.4Fe2O4 reveal line broadening with increasing temperature and the relaxation effect at low temperature.

Notes: Slowly cooled Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4 has been investigated over a temperature range from 13 to 880 K using the Mössbauer technique. X-ray diffraction shows that it has an inverse spinel structure and a lattice constant of a=8.346±0.005 A(ring). The Mössbauer spectra that are laid less overlapping at low temperature have been fitted with two sextets in the ferrimagnetic state. The iron ions at both A (tetrahedral) and B (octahedral) sites are found to be in ferric high-spin states. Its Néel temperature TN is found to be 865±3 K. As the temperature increases toward TN a more overlapping effect of the six-line patterns in A and B sites is observed and interpreted to have originated from different temperature dependencies of the magnetic hyperfine fields at A and B iron sites. Assuming that A–B magnetic interactions are stronger than A–A and B–B interactions, we have calculated the hyperfine fields at the A and B iron sites in ionic distribution (Fe)A[Ni0.5Co0.5Fe]BO4 as a function of temperature. The theoretical Mössbauer spectra from the above calculated hyperfine fields are obtained and compared with experimental spectra. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The effects of hydrogen plasma exposure on the characteristics of an n-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transitor are studied. The helium plasma gives almost no changes in maximum transonductance and subthreshold slope whereas the hydrogen plasma degrades maximum transconductance and increases subthreshold slope. These results indicate that the excess interface traps are generated by hydrogenation, which is also confirmed by quasi-static capacitance-voltage analysis.

Notes: A constant concern of management information systems (MIS) researchers and practitioners has been improving user satisfaction with the information services function (USISF). Due to the growth of end-user computing, decentralization, and alternative sources of supply, an organization's information services function (ISF) is now faced with serving customers that possess substantial discretion in their use and purchase of information systems (IS) services. This increasingly market-oriented environment demands sensitivity to IS customers' expectations and perceived value of ISF services. One important source of guidance in such an IS management environment is to look at marketing literature for frameworks that may permit the ISF to more effectively determine and convey the value of their services. Recognizing the need to improve existing MIS measures of user satisfaction with the ISF, this study adapts the SERVQUAL measure from marketing to provide more specific information about user satisfaction with the information service function. It was found that, while the three original dimensions of the traditional user information satisfaction (UIS) measure remain strong predictors of overall ISF user satisfaction, two aspects of IS service quality, “reliability” and “empathy,” are also significant predictors. The results suggest that the original dimensions of UIS may not be comprehensive enough to capture the more detailed dimensions of ISF service quality in SERVQUAL, and that the reliability and empathy dimensions of service quality may be needed to supplement the traditional UIS measure in determining user satisfaction with the information services function. Implications for research and practice resulting from these findings are discussed.

Notes: Maintaining consistently high quality information services (IS) is a powerful means of increasing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of a global enterprise. This study introduces a global Information Services Function (ISF) Quality Framework that outlines the importance of both behavioral and procedural dimensions in planning, implementing and evaluating global IS quality. Based on this framework, the study investigates the cross-national psychometric properties of a behavioral measure of service quality in the IS context. Using a cross-national survey of IS customers from Korea, Hong Kong, the United States and the Netherlands, perceived ISF service quality was measured using a service quality measure (SERVQUAL) to determine cultural affects. Based on confirmatory factor analysis, support was found for four of the original five SERVQUAL quality dimensions in the U.S.A. and the Netherlands. However, the same four-dimensional measurement model did not fit the Hong Kong and Korean samples. Further factor analysis showed that the Hong Kong and Korean samples shared a somewhat similar factor structure that differs from the shared U.S.A. and Netherlands structure. These findings support previous research that has found an “Asian factor'’with differing definitions of IS Service quality. These findings suggest that the feasibility of standardized global ISF measurement depends heavily on the relative magnitude of cultural effects. Rather than merely applying the U.S.A. ISF/SERVQUAL measure, a localized version of the instrument may need to be developed that captures the unique nature of ISF service perceptions in internationally based subsidiaries or companies.

Notes: A new perturbation theory which is reliable over a wide fluid region is presented. The new theory reduces to the theory of Weeks, Chandler, and Anderson at densities near or below the triple point density of a simple fluid but it can also accurately predict thermodynamic properties at higher densities near the freezing line of the fluid. This is done by employing an optimized reference potential whose repulsive range decreases with increase in density. Thermodynamic properties for Lennard-Jones, exponential-6, and inverse nth-power (n=12, 9, 6, and 4) potentials have been calculated from the new theory. Comparison of the calculated data with available Monte Carlo simulations and additional simulations carried out in this work shows that the theory gives excellent thermodynamic results for these systems. The present theory also gives a physically reasonable hard-sphere diameter over the entire fluid range.

Notes: It is curious to find out how chief executive officers (CEOs) think of the Internet and e-business. Through an analysis of the homepages of CEOs of the Fortune e-50 companies, we attempted to evaluate the information value of the Websites. The analysis indicates that only a handful of CEOs can be currently regarded as the owners of informative homepages while most CEOs do not appear to be serious in building and maintaining their homepages.

Notes: Recent advances in manufacturing and information technologies present promising strategic alternatives for designing a new manufacturing information system. Total manufacturing information system is an integrated system of manufacturing technologies and business strategy into an information system. It is a strategic tool for achieving competitive advantage, which enables firms to respond quickly to market changes, achieve flexibility of products and processes, and manage the complexity of today's manufacturing environment.
