Description: Protein glycosylation is a post-translational modification that impacts on protein activity, stability, and interactions. It was sensitively altered by the cellular state and, therefore, is now used for a diagnostic or prognostic indicator of various human diseases such as cancer. To evaluate the clinical feasibility in the veterinary area, the N-glycan biomarkers were discovered from canine serum for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA), which is one of the most common diseases of dogs. N-glycome was obtained from 20 μL of canine serum by the enzymatic cleavage followed by the purification and enrichment using solid-phase extraction. Independent compositions of 163 and 463 N-glycans were found from healthy control (n = 41) and osteoarthritis patients (n = 92), respectively. Initially, 31 of the potential biomarkers were screened by the p-values below 1.0 × 10−10 from ANOVA. Then, the area under the curve (AUC) and the intensity ratio between OA patient and healthy control (P/C ratio) were calculated. Considering the diagnostic efficacy, the AUC bigger than 0.9 and the P/C ratio larger than 3.0 were used to discover 16 N-glycans as diagnostic biomarkers. Particularly, five of the diagnostic biomarkers were AUC above 0.99 and three of N-glycans had AUC 1.0. The results suggest a clear possibility for N-glycan biomarkers to be used as a clinical tool in the veterinary medical area enabling to provide objective and non-invasive diagnostic information.

Description: VWorld Data Center (VDC), operated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of South of Korea, provides the latest high-quality spatial information of South Korea. VWorld data include aerial images, digital elevation models, 3D buildings, 3D bridges, roads, administrative information, etc. We present a 3D spatial information platform that uses VWorld data. This platform is based on the web browser environment and supports cross platform by complying with WebGL and web standards. The 3D-terrain tile structure has a quadtree-based detail level for high-resolution rendering. When rendering different tile levels or sizes simultaneously, abnormal gaps occur between the tiles. We propose the use of a specially shaped 3D terrain object model to minimize these gaps. This model can be used and verified using the service site of the WebGL-based VWorld spatial information platform. Our platform has a limited environment and runs in a web browser while requesting real-time spatial information data from VDC. VWorld data cannot be stored locally by policy. We improve the frame rate in such way that it can easily be used in a limited web browser environment or even a computing environment without a graphics processing unit. We intend to officially present the proposed method to the VDC and apply it. We expect our platform to be used for various web-based geospatial applications.

Description: Digital twin technology based on building a virtual digital city similar to a real one enables the simulation of urban phenomena or the design of a city. A geospatial platform is an essential supporting component of digital twin cities. In this study, we propose a planetary-scale geospatial open platform that can be used easily in the most widely used game engine environment. The proposed platform can visualize large-capacity geospatial data in real time because it organizes and manages various types of data based on quadtree tiles. The proposed rendering tile decision method provides constant geospatial data visualization according to the camera controls of the user. The platform implemented is based on Unity3D, and therefore, one can use it easily by importing the proposed asset library. The proposed geospatial platform is available on the Asset Store. We believe that the proposed platform can meet the needs of various three-dimensional (3-D) geospatial applications.
