Blamire Recent progress in superconducting spintronics has highlighted the potential of superconductors (SCs) in low-energy computing technologies. Most studies of quasiparticle spin transport in SCs have relied on dc transport measurements, but this one utilizes the inverse spin-Hall effect induced by spin pumping to investigate spin-orbit coupling and spin transport in Nb, the standard material for applications. The authors not only provide reliable values of spin-Hall angle and spin-diffusion length in Nb, but also suggest a better device geometry for electrical detection of this effect, whether in the normal state or deep into superconducting territory.
