    Description / Table of Contents: The correlation between chemical structure of liqued-crystalline polymers and their properties is investiated with polysiloxanes containing mesogenie phenylbenzoate side groups. The main interest is aimed at the influence of the carboxylic group arranged in different ways. The resulting differences in interaction between the side chains cause significant changes of the properties and the liqued-crystalline behaviour of the polymers.
    Notes: Die Korrelation zwischen der cyemische Struktur kristallin-flüssiger Polymere und ihren Eigenschaften wird am Beispiel von Polysiloxanen mit mesogenen Phenylbenzoat-Seitengruppen untersucht. Hauptaugenmerk wird dem Einfluß der unterschiedlich ausgerichteten Carboxylgruppe geschenkt. Die resultierenden Unterschiede in der Wechselwirkung zwischen den Seitenketten führen zu prägnaten Veränderungen in den Polymeruigenschaften und im kristallin-flüssigen Verhalten.

    Description / Table of Contents: Dielektrische Relaxationsmessungen im Frequenzbereich von 0,4 Hz bis 100 kHz wurden an zwei unorientierten Siloxanpolymeren ausgeführt. Es wurde nur ein intensives Absorptionsgebiet vom Cole-Cole-Typ gefunden. Die molekular Beweglichkeit des Siloxanpolymers ist wesentlich höher als die Reorientierung in den entsprechenden Polyacrylaten und Polymethacrylaten.
    Notes: Dielectric relaxation measurements in the frequency range 0.4 Hz to 100kHz have been carried out with two unoriented siloxane polymers. Only one intensive absorption range of the Cole-Cole type was detected. The molecular mobility of the siloxane polymers is distinctly higher than the reorientation of the respective polyacrylates and polymethacrylates.

    Description / Table of Contents: Flexible side chain polymers form liquid crystalline phases. We found typical textures of these mesophases by means of polarization microscopy. These textures are similar to those of low molecular weight compounds. The action of magnetic fields on the formation of textures is investigated.
    Notes: Flexible Seitenkettenpolymere sind in der Lage, flüssig-kristalline Phasen auszubilden. Es gelang, typische Texturen dieser Phasen aufzunehmen. Diese Texturen sind denen der niedermolekularen ähnlich. Magnetfelder beeinflussen die sich ausbildende Textur, wie anhand polarisationsmikroskopischer Aufnahmen gezeigt wird.

The changes of mesomorphic properties at specific structure variations are correlated with results from the monomers. The rigid mesogenic core, the spacer and the wing group are variated.

    Description / Table of Contents: Nematisch und smektisch orientierte Siloxanseitenkettenpolymere wurden mit der FT-1H-NMR-Methode untersucht, um Informationen über einen makroskopischen Ordnungsparameter bei Variation des mesogenen Kettenlängenendes zu erhalten. Die Protonenspektren spiegeln direkt die Rolle des Spacers im Orientierungsprozeß des flexiblen Seitenkettenpolymers wider.
    Notes: Nematically and smectically ordered samples of comb-like siloxane polymers were studied by FT-1H-NMR method to get information about the macroscopic order parameter varying the chain-end length of the mesogenic side group. The proton spectra (line shape, splitting) reflect directly the role of the spacer in the ordering process of the comb-like polymers.

    Description / Table of Contents: Dielektrische Relaxationsmessungen wurden im Frequenzbereich von 1 Hz bis 100 kHz an Copolymeren mit unterschiedlichen molaren Verhältnissen der beiden flüssig-kristallinen Anteile durchgeführt. Zwei dielektrische Relaxationsgebiete, die den entsprechenden zwei Anteilen zugeordnet werden, wurden gefunden. Die Copolymere zeigen relativ zu den Homopolymeren eine ansteigende molekulare Beweglichkeit. Die Ergebnisse werden in Relation zum Zustandsdiagramm und zu den dielektrischen Werten an niedermolekularen Flüssigkristallen diskutiert.
    Notes: Dielectric relaxation measurements have been carried out in the frequency range from 1 Hz to 100 kHz on copolymers with different molar ratios of two liquid crystalline parts. Two dielectric relaxation ranges were detected which are related to the two respective parts. The copolymers show an increasing molecular mobility with respect to the homopolymers. The results are discussed in relation to the phase diagram and to dielectric data on low molecular liquid crystals.
