Description: The aim of this study was to examine the adverse effects of zinc nanoparticles on hematological indices of trout and investigate the improvement of these indices after vitamin C treatments. This study assesses the protective role of vitamin C in fish exposed to ZnO NPs. Two concentrations of ZnO-NPs (40 and 80 mg L-1) and two doses of vitamin C (400 and 800 mg per kg of feed) were used to treat 162 specimens of Oncorhynchus mykiss. No mortality was observed during the test. After 5 and 10 days of exposure, hematological data were analyzed according to routine clinical methods. Statistical analysis showed significant changes in WBCs and RBC on day 10 (p〈0.05). Values for HT and MCH were significantly higher in treatment 2 (normal diet+40 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) and 9 (800 mg/kg Vit + 80 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs), and lower in treatment 3 (normal diet+80 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) in comparison with the control group (normal diet+0 mg L-1 ZnO-NPs) (P〈0.05). No significant differences of MCV and MCHC were observed (p〉0.05), while significant increase in neutrophils and monocytes, and decrease in lymphocyte cells were recorded (p〈0.05). ZnO-NPs stimulated the immune system of O. mykiss, but this effect did not have any lethality on this species at 40 and 80 mg L-1. Vitamin C in different concentrations could help to prevent rainbow trout from the toxic effects of this nano metal.

Description: Sillaginids are one of the important fishes in coastal waters of Persian Gulf, whose larvae of different species are morphologically very similar to each other and identification of them to species level is very difficult. In this study a total of 4195 Sillaginidae larvae were collected from five inlets (Shif, Lashkari, Ramleh, Dubbeh, Farakeh) and one sampling site in the coastal area of Bushehr Province using a Bongo-net. Morphological and genetic methods were used to identity larvae of this family. The larvae were morphologically divided into two groups, depending on 34 or 38 myomers. The larvae with 34 myomeres were identified as Sillago sihama. To identify larvae with 38 myomers, 12 individuals of postflexion larvae were selected and the morphological characteristics such as number of dorsal and anal fins as well as DNA barcoding of COI were used. According to morphological characteristics, the larvae were divided into two species; Sillago arabica and Sillago attenuata. Genetic studies were done by sequencing of 625 base pair of COI gene. Genetic distances calculated using K2P model between these two species was 18% to 19.7% which indicate that DNA barcoding confirms morphological method and it can be used for identifying younger larvae whose fin rays have not been developed and are unidentifiable with morphological methods.

Description: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Pediococcus acidilactici and Agaricus bisporus administration on some blood and non-specific immune parameters of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). The total number of 180 fish with average weight of 19.06±0.69 g was adapted to laboratory conditions for 2 weeks. Afterwards, they were divided into 12 fiberglass tanks with the density of 15 fish in a tank. The study was performed in a complete randomize design for 2 months using 4 dietary treatments including the commercial diet (control group), commercial diet supplemented with P. acidilactici (0/9×107 CFU/g), commercial diet supplemented with mushroom powder (10 g/kg), and commercial diet supplemented with the combination of P. acidilactici (0/9×107 CFU/g) and mushroom powder (10 g/kg). At the end of the study, the results indicated that there was no significant difference in the number of red blood cells (RBC) among various groups. The highest levels of hemoglobin )8/15±0/37)(g/dL), MCV, 223/63±23/77(fL), MCH, 56/21±5/31(pg) and the lowest amount of white blood cell count, 9/73±1/00 (×103 cell/ml) were observed in the synbiotic group (P〈0.05). Furthermore, hematocrit (32/43±1/69%) and MCHC (25/17±1/06 %) showed a slight increase in the synbiotic treatment compared to the control group (P〉0.05). Significant differences in the total immunoglobulin, lysozyme activity and ACH50 were not found among various experimental groups (P〈0.05). In conclusion, the commercial diet supplemented with the combination of the probiotic (0/9×107 CFU/g) and prebiotic (10 g/kg) improved some blood parameters in common carp.

Description: This study was aimed to examine the impact of different levels of dietary nucleotides (Vannagen) on serum biochemical and blood parameters of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus). Fish (42.37± 2.12 g and 23.67± 0.61 cm) were divided into four treatments with different levels of dietary nucleotides (0, 0.25, 0.35 and 0.5 percent of diet). There were three replicates with a density of 12 fish per tank. After 10 weeks of feeding, serum biochemical and blood parameters were measured. Among the measured factors, blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, erythrocyte and heterophil showed significant differences between the groups fed with nucleotides and the control group (P ≤ 0.05). By increasing the nucleotide levels, the mean heterophil and serum glucose showed significant increase and decrease, respectively. The highest and lowest values of cholesterol and triglyceride were found in groups fed with 0.25% and 0.35% nucleotides, respectively. The other measured factors had no significant difference (P≤0.05). Therefore, it could be said that with regard to the limited capacity of cells to synthesize nucleotides, external preparing of nucleotides could result in the production of needed nucleotides and an increase of its production speed, especially during stress. Such preparation can also improve fish physiology and health status.
