Notizen: Summary It was shown in experiments on dogs that during the circulation through the pulmonary vascular system of acetylcholine added to the blood no recordable pressure changes were noted in the pulmonary circulation. Pressor reaction began in 4–11 seconds after the administration into the pulmonary artery. Injection of acetylcholine into the left ventricle and aorta also leads to the pressor reaction in the pulmonary circulation; this occurs earlier than when the substance is injected into the femoral vein or directly into the pulmonary artery (in 4 seconds). Besides, pressor reaction is more marked in administration of acetylcholine into the left ventricle and aorta than in injection into the venous part of the systemic circulation. Pressure reduction in the pulmonary artery, preceding its rise, is directly connected with the inhibition of the cardiac activity and is also well reproduced with acetylcholine administered into the pulmonary artery and the left ventricle of the heart. Thus, acetylcholine does not provoke direct changes in the hemodynamics of the pulmonary circulation, and, evidently, does not influence the tone of the pulmonary vessels. Period of reaction development in the pulmonary circulation and the same type of reaction occurring in acetylcholine administration into the venous and the arterial portion of the circulation lead to the conclusion that the hemodynamic effects the pulmonary circulation reflect the hemodynamic shifts in the systemic circulation.

Notizen: Summary A description is given of a four- and five-channel water-mercury manometer for use in physiology. Glass tubes, styrofoam floats, glass capillaries and other parts are mounted on three metal brackets supported from a vertical rod. Pointers attached to the capillary tubes are guided between stretched parallel threads. The construction ensures accurate alignment to record synchronously the pressures in different parts of the vascular system. The whole width of the kymograph band may be used for each pressure curve. It is usually not necessary to regulate the synchronization of the different channels after changing the kymograph band.

Notizen: Summary The renal plethysmograph consists of two separate kidney-like half-molds. The surface of these halfmolds is covered with thin rubber of a special shape. The rubber is attached with the aid of a ligature at the edge furrow. The ligature around the portals of the plethysmograph is placed along the figured furrow and is held in place by means of miniature bitts. This instrument may be employed both in air and water plethysmography.

Notizen: Summary Following quick intravenous injection of hypertonic glucose and sodium chloride solution, the arterial blood pressure in dogs increases in 2 waves with a depressor wave in-between. It then drops and subsequently rises to its initial level. The author conducted experiments with catheterization of the cardiac cavities and of the great vascular trunks, with prefusion of the isolated pulmonary lobe and extremity. It was demonstrated that the changes of the blood pressure described above are determined by a successive stimulation with hypertonic solution of reflexogenic zones of the pulmonary circulation, the great arterial trunks, the peripheral vascular network (with a possible paticipation of the peripheral mechanisms). In strong stimulation powerful depressor reflexes from the receptors of the pulmonary circulation are prevalent with constriction of the pulmonary vessels. This brings about a sharp temporary rise of the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery and a fall of the general arterial pressure. The main afferent and efferent mechanisms and scheme of the reaction are described.
