Notizen:
Summary Two types of direction specific neurons were found in the pretectum and near the nuclei of the accessory optic tract of the frog (Rana esculenta): in type I the preferred directions were predominantly horizontally oriented, and in type II the preferred direction had a strong vertical up or downwards component. Comparison with findings by others in other vertebrates suggest the possibility that these neurons play an important role in the guiding of the optokinetic movements.
