Abstract:
Notes:
Abstract In the study of electrical properties of the cell membrane, several kinds of microelectrode arrangements have been used to observe the effect of extrinsic current on the membrane potential. This paper deals with a coaxial type microelectrode, the outer pipet of which is made fine enough (0·5–1·0μ at the tip) to penetrate into single cells or small compartments in the tissue together with the inner pipet. The resistive coupling between the current and recording systems is made negligibly small by protruding the inner pipet a few microns out of the tip of the outer pipet. As an example of its application, our attempt at resistance measurement of theS potential site in the fish retina is described.
