Description / Table of Contents:
The heats of formation of the solid chlorides NbCl5 and NbCl4 have been determined from calorimetric measurements of the heats of solution. The δH-values for the gaseous compounds NbCl5 and NbCl4, for the upper and lower limits of the trichloride phase NbCl3,13 and NbCl2,67, and for NbCl2 were determined on the basis of further experimental investigations.Normal entropies and Cp-functions have been estimated for all the niobium chlorides. The thermodynamic values thus calculated were checked against a large amount of experimental information and confirmed. The methods of formation and reactions of NbCl5 and NbCl4, NbCl2,67, and NbCl2 the thermal decomposition of gaseous NbCl5, the disproportionation of NbCl4, NbCl2,67, and NbCl2, the reduction of NbCl5(g∥ with H2 to solid „NbCl3“, the reduction of NbCl2,67 and NbCl2 with H2, and finally the reaction of Nb with HCl are discussed.
Notes:
