Notes: Abstract: The exclusive charge exchange reaction pD↦n(pp) at intermediate and high energies is studied within the Bethe-Salpeter formalism. The final-state interaction in the detected pp pair at nearly zero excitation energy is described by the 1 S 0 component of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. Results of numerical calculations of polarization observables and differential cross-section persuade that, as in the non-relativistic case, this reaction i) can be utilized as a “relativistic deuteron polarimeter” and ii) delivers further information about the elementary nucleon-nucleon charge exchange amplitude.

Notes: Abstract: The double differential dilepton spectrum d/(d 2 d ⊥ 2) at fixed transverse mass M ⊥ allows a direct access to the vector meson spectral functions. Within a fireball model the sensitivity of d/(d 2 d ⊥ 2) against variations of both the in-medium properties of mesons and the dynamics of the fireball is investigated. In contrast to the integrated invariant-mass spectrum d/d 2, in the spectrum d/(d 2 d ⊥ 2) with fixed M ⊥ the ω signal is clearly seen as bump riding on the ρ background even in case of strong in-medium modifications.[3mm]

Notes: Abstract.  The elastic backward proton-deuteron scattering is analyzed within a covariant approach based on the deuteron vertex function obtained by the Bethe-Salpeter equation with realistic meson-exchange interaction. Contributions of the one-nucleon and one-pion exchange mechanisms to the cross section and polarization observables are investigated in explicit form. Results of numerical calculations for the cross section, tensor analyzing power and spin transfers are presented. The one-pion exchange contribution is essential for describing the spin-averaged cross section, while in polarization observables it is found to have a small effect.

Notes: Abstract We consider massive photon decay reactions via intermediate states of electron-electron-holes and proton-proton-holes into neutrino-antineutrino pairs in the course of neutron star cooling. These reactions may become operative in hot neutron stars in the region of proton pairing where the photon due to the Higgs-Meissner effect acquires an effective mass m γ that is small compared to the corresponding plasma frequency. The contribution of these reactions to neutrino emissivity is calculated; it varies with the temperature and the photon mass as T 3/2 m γ 7/2 exp(−m γ /T) for T〈m γ . Estimates show that these processes appear as extra efficient cooling channels of neutron stars at temperatures T≅109–1010 K.

Notes: Abstract It is argued that the neutrino bursts registered on February 23.316 UT, 1987 signalized the transition of a fresh-borne neutron star into a superdense state. The neutron star is supposed to be formed approximately five hours before at February 23.12 UT in the supernova SN 1987a in the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Notes: Abstract The phenomenology of a cosmic-phase transition on the GUT energy scale is considered. Relying on numerical studies of the nucleation theory, we find, within a restricted range of parameters, an approximate power-law expansion accompanied by a large increase of both the scale factor and the comoving entropy. The distinct feature of this particular idea is the fact that inflation and phase conversion of the GUT continuum proceed simultaneously. The generic features of such an idea are explored.

Notes: Abstract. In ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at $\sqrt{s} 〉$ 20 (120) A $\cdot$ GeV a copious production of charm (bottom) production sets in which, via correlated semileptonic $D \bar D$ ( $B \bar B$ ) decays, gives rise to a dilepton yield at invariant mass $M \approx$ 2–3 GeV in excess of the Drell-Yan yield and the thermal dilepton signal from deconfined matter as well. We show that appropriate single-electron transverse momentum cuts (suitable for ALICE at LHC) cause a threshold like behavior of the dilepton spectra from heavy-quark meson decays and the Drell-Yan process and can allow to observe a thermal dilepton signal from hot deconfined matter.

Notes: Abstract Photon production in a longitudinally and transversely expanding gluon plasma with initially little quark admixture is considered. Chemical equilibration of quarks and gluons is followed by rate equations. The yields of hard photons withE≥2 GeV are insensitive to chemical equilibration and depend mainly on the initial thermalized state. Medium-energy photons withE∼1 GeV are more frequently produced in case of faster equilibration, despite of faster cooling. For an assumed fast equilibration we follow the evolution of matter through mixed and hadron phases. The transverse momentum kick, due to transverse expansion, of photons from hadron matter is shown to be reduced for an equation of state with reduced latent heat. The photon yield in the regionE〉1 GeV from deconfined matter dominates for conditions, estimated to be achieved at RHIC, in case of a weakly first-order confinement transition.

Notes: Abstract Perturbative QCD is used in lowest order for estimating the phase transition from quarks to hadrons in the early universe. The transition temperature,T=200±20 MeV, turns out to be significantly smaller than that deduced from potential models.

Notes: Abstract The possibility of a mini-inflationary era before and during the cosmic confinement transition is demonstrated. The inflationary growth of the space is caused by some supercooling of the quark-gluon matter. We study the temperature evolution by exploiting nucleation theory.
