Description: This book edited by Drs. Yang Liu from Emory University, Jun Wang from the University of Iowa, and Omar Torres from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center recompiles the results of recently documented research work on Atmospheric Pollution published as a special issue of the MDPI Remote Sensing Journal. It includes twenty peer-reviewed scientific articles on Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Pollution by leading experts from research institutions and universities around the world. The quality and scientific relevance of the published material was carefully monitored by the guest editor team. Both modeling and observational aspects of particulate matter and trace gas pollutants are treated in great detail by the contributing experts. Many of the published articles explore the use of satellite observations by sensors such as MODIS, VIIRS, and OMI as a valuable research tool. Authors use these observations in combination with models and ground-based observations to enhance the resources available to improve our understanding of the physical and chemical processes driving the observed pollution levels near the ground and in the free troposphere that ultimately determine the quality of the air we all breathe. This is an important reference book for scientists, professors and students both graduate and undergraduate interested in up-to-date survey of remote sensing applications to Atmospheric Pollution.

Description: Nuclear energy is one of the most important clear energy and contributes more than 10% electric power to human society in the past decades of years. The nuclear thermal hydraulic and two-phase flow is one of the basic branches of nuclear technology and provides structure design and safety analysis to the nuclear power reactors. In the new century, the basic theoretical research of thermal hydraulic and two-phase flow, and innovative design for the next generation nuclear power plants (especially for the small modular reactor and molten salt reactor), along with other nuclear branches, constantly support the development of nuclear technology.

Notes: Sulphate ion and chloride ion existed in the alkaline saline soils may cause seriousproblems on the durability of reinforced concrete structures, while it is found that superfine mineral powder plays positive role in the precaution of the alkaline saline corrosion. A composite cement named high performance cement (H.P.C) composed of clinker, metakaolin and fly ash powder in appropriate proportions is developed with good performance in preventing concrete from alkaline saline soil corrosion. Mortar bar test and visual examination showed that the cement couldeffectively control AAR and sulphate ion related expansion, and the charge passed tested according to ASTM C1202 was decreased to “negligible” level for concrete with W/B ratio of 0.3, and “very low” grade for concrete with W/B ratio of 0.45 and 0.55 when the high performance cement was used. Other properties such as low hydration heat and anti-freezing properties, as well as the uniformity of the fresh concrete (with no bleeding and segregation), made it an important material in the construction of concrete structure in alkaline saline soils

Notes: Abstract In this paper we study the stability for equilibrium points of equations in two-population dynamics. We discuss two predator-prey-patch models. Model 1 is described by a differential equation. Model 2 is described by an integral differential equation. We obtain the conditions for the stability of their equilibrium points. The results show that the overall population stability despite local extinction is realizable.

Notes: Abstract We first discuss singularity problem of a sort of partial differential equation involving δ function. Using this result we, then have the answer to various singularity problems in elasticity due to the presentation of a concentrated force. Lastly corresponding conclusions in vibration problem are drawn.

Notes: Abstract The high-order boundary conditions for the problems of Laplace equation in infinite region have been developed. The improvement in accuracy for numerical solution is achieved by imposing the high-order boundary conditions on the exterior boundary of a reduced finite region in which the numerical method is used. So both the computing efforts and the required storage in computer are reduced. The numerical examples show that the 1st-order boundary condition approaches to the exact boundary condition and it is clearly superior to the traditional boundary condition and the 2nd-order boundary condition.

Notes: Abstract This paper makes detailed analyses for the flexural vibration (frequency) of the hemispherical shell and presents the varying laws of frequency with the varying boundary angles and the wall thickness of the above shell. It is an important value to develop the instrument, such as hemispherical resonator gyro (HRG), whose sensing component is a hemispherical shell.

Notes: Abstract A numerical analysis of the propagation of stress waves and the allied scabbing phenomena in a steel plate under explosive attack is made, by using a model of one-dimensional flow. The results are compared with our experimental results which were carried out several years ago. It is found that, in case the hydrodynamic-elastoplastic model for steel plate and the cumulative damage spall criterion are used, the calculated thickness of the major spall is in reasonable agreement with that obtained in the experiments. An approximate formula for the thickness of the major spall is presented and the “mica-splitting” phenomenon about the minor spalls observed in the experiments is satisfactorily explained.

Notes: Abstract The general distribution of monogenean parasites of aquatic vertebrates inhabiting Chinese inland waters is summarised. Five hundred and seventy-two out of a total of 581 species of monogeneans were discovered on fish, while only nine species were found on Amphibia and Reptilia. Most dactylogyrids and diplozoids parasitise cyprinids, while ancyrocephalids occur on silurids and cyprinids, and gyrodactylids are found mainly on cyprinids and cobitids. Analyses of host-specificity and host-diversity suggests that the family Ancyrocephalidae should be divided into several families parallel with the Dactylogyridae. Of 12 subfamilies of the Cyprinidae, only the Gobiobotinae was found to be free of infection with monogeneans, and the genus Dactylogyrus has more species than any other monogenean genus associated with every cyprinid subfamily.
