Notes: Molecular dynamics simulations have been carried out for sinple point charge (SPC) water, in normal, compressed, and stretched states. A detailed analysis of local structures using both pair correlation and Voronoi polyhedra distribution, which describes the information about the multiparticle distribution, was reported. We examine the oxygen–oxygen pair correlation function and the distributions of Voronoi polyhedra in response to the variation of density and temperature. The asphericity distributions of Voronoi polyhedra reveals the anisotropicity of local arrangements of water molecules. It is found local pair distributions depend on the asphericities of center molecules. A high value of the asphericity parameter η corresponds to an icelike local structure of tetrahedrally bonded network patch. Loosely bonded structures, with low value of asphericity, have much less hydrogen bonding, and they are more susceptible to density fluctuation. Partition of local structures according to the asphericity of Voronoi polyhedra gives different pair correlation functions which give an identical set of isosbestic points. It is proposed that the Voronoi polyhedra analysis of configurations can be explained by a two-states patch model of water.

Notes: Lifelong learning has come to involve a variety of learning experiences. These include conventional campus teaching, workplace open learning, modular flexible learning programmes, correspondence-based distance learning courses, and most recently Web or multimedia-based courseware. This paper considers the use of multimedia environments for open, flexible and distance education, in particular a learning environment known as the "Virtual University" as part of a process of lifelong learning. A comparison of different modes of learning is made. The Virtual University consists of virtual lectures, virtual seminars, virtual tutorials and virtual exams. It has a number of advantages over both formal lectures and conventional open learning materials, such as interactivity, adaptation, simulation, demonstration and integration. A questionnaire survey was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the Virtual University, and the results indicate an enhancement of the overall learning experience.

Notes: [Auszug] Nature367, 288–291 (1994) In this Letter, we identified a chromosomal antigen and its corresponding cDNA by using a human autoimmune serum. We named this 47K autoantigen RMSA1 (for regulator of mitotic spindle assembly 1). Tugendreich et al. and Margalit et al. observed that ...

Notes: Abstract An intermolecular compound, H3PMo12O40·5(CH3CH2)2NH·H2O, between the heteropolymolybdate α-H3PMo12O40 and the organic substrate diethylamine, has been synthesized and characterized. Light yellow crystals of the title compound were crystallized from a mixed solvent of water and acetonitrile with formula H3PMo12O40·5(CH3CH2)2NH·H2O. Spectroscopic data support the presence of a sizable electronic interaction between the organic substrate and the inorganic anion in the solid state. The single crystal x-ray structure analysis of the title compound revealed that it crystallized in the triclinic system, space group P $$\overline 1$$ with a = 12.0786(13), b = 12.102(5), c = 21.416(3) Å, α = 94.87(2), β = 94.755(9), γ = 113.81(2)°, V = 2830.3(13) Å3, and Z = 2.

Notes: Abstract A method of ‘multi-cloud model’ (MCM) is proposed in this paper in order to research asymmetric profiles of spectral line formed by solar discrete active objects aligned along the line-of-sight difection. Based on the MCM method, under the conditions of certain assumptions and approximations, the line-of-sight velocityV and three other physical parameter approximation values, (i.e. Doppler width Δλ D , source functionS and optical depth at line center τ0) within different ‘clouds’ may be derived simultaneously by fitting both profiles theoretical and observational. An application example of the method withm=3 shows that MCM method is suitable to measure the velocity fields of multi-object at the same time from their non-Gaussian profiles of complex. TheV and Δλ D derived from the method are reliable,S and τ0 are approximation. An influence of the variations of initial values in the parameter on the solution is given as well.

Notes: A W/O microemulsion system composed of OP-emolsifier / water / cyclohexane / 1-Pentanolwas adopted to prepare ultrafine Ce1-xPrxO2 powder via the reaction between the precipitants of ceriumand praseodymium salt solved in the nano reactors. The influence of the annealing conditions on thepreparation of Ce1-xPrxO2 powder was investigated. It was shown that, with the increase of calcinationtemperature from 400 °C to 800 °C, the average crystallite size of the particles increases from 9.5 nm to25.8 nm. FE-SEM images showed that shape of the particles is layered and sheet-like

Notes: Pr-CeO2 nano-size powders with the average crystallites size of 12 nm and particle size of 18nm were prepared by a co-precipitation-hydrothermal method using Ce(NO3)3·6H2O, Pr6O11 as rawmaterials and ammonia as the precipitation agent. The influence of hydrothermal treatment time, hydrothermal treatment temperature on the average crystallites size, color of powders and the solubility ofpraseodymium were investigated. The synthesized powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and color measurements. Results showed that after calcining at 800ºCfor 4 hours, the color of the as-prepared powder changes from light red to red brown, the solubility ofpraseodymium and the crystallites size of the Pr-CeO2 powder both increase

Notes: [Auszug] YEO ET AL. REPLY - We agree that Alu elements are present in the RMSA-1 cDNA sequence that we reported1. Tugendreich et al. suggest that one possi-ble explanation is that we may have cloned an expressed pseudogene. However, we have reviewed our published and unpub-lished data and ...

Notes: [Auszug] The autoimmune serum from a patient with discoid lupus erythematosus reacted with chromosomes of mitotic Hep-2 cells, but not with nuclei of interphase cells (Fig. 1). Similar reactions were seen in monkey, mouse and marsupial cells (data not shown). The serum immunoblotted a 47K component in ...
