Description: Biotic and abiotic stress factors deliver a huge impact on plant life. Biotic stress factors such as damage through pathogens or herbivore attack, as well as abiotic stress factors like variation in temperature, rainfall and salinity, have placed the plant kingdom under constant challenges for survival. As a consequence, global agricultural and horticultural productivity has been disturbed to a large extent. Being sessile in nature, plants cannot escape from the stress, and instead adapt changes within their system to overcome the adverse conditions. These changes include physiological, developmental and biochemical alterations within the plant body which influences the genome, proteome and metabolome profiles of the plant. Since proteins are the ultimate players of cellular behavior, proteome level alterations during and recovery period of stress provide direct implications of plant responses towards stress factors. With current advancement of modern high-throughput technologies, much research has been carried out in this field. This e-book highlights the research and review articles that cover proteome level changes during the course or recovery period of various stress factors in plant life. Overall, the chapters in this e-book has provided a wealth of information on how plants deal with stress from a proteomics perspective.

Notes: Abstract The global bifurcation and chaos are investigated in this paper for a van der Pol-Duffing-Mathieu system with a single-well potential oscillator by means of nonlinear dynamics. The autonomous system corresponding to the system under discussion is analytically studied to draw all global bifurcation diagrams in every parameter space. These diagrams are called basic bifurcation ones. Then fixing parameter in every space and taking the parametrically excited amplitude as a bifurcation parameter, we can observe how to evolve from a basic bifurcation diagram to a chaos pattern in terms of numerical methods. The results are sufficient to show that the system has distinct dynamic behavior. Finally, the properties of the basins of attraction are observed and the appearance of fractal basin boundaries heralding the onset of a loss of structural integrity is noted in order to consider how to control the extent and the rate of the erosion in the next paper.

Notes: Abstract Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method is used to investigate the global bifurcations and chaos in the nonlinear system of a Van der Pol-Duffing-Mathieu oscillator. Semi-analytical and semi-numerical method means that the autonomous system, called Van der Pol-Duffing system, is analytically studied to draw all global bifurcations diagrams in parameter space. These diagrams are called basic bifurcation diagrams. Then fixing parameter in every space and taking parametrically excited amplitude as a bifurcation parameter, we can observe the evolution from a basic bifurcation diagram to chaotic pattern by numerical methods.

Notes: Abstract This paper studies interactions of pipe and fluid and deals with bifurcations of a cantilevered pipe conveying a steady fluid, clamped at one end and having a nozzle subjected to nonlinear constraints at the free end. Either the nozzle parameter or the flow velocity is taken as a variable parameter. The discrete equations of the system are obtained by the Ritz-Galerkin method. The static stability is studied by the Routh criteria. The method of averaging is employed to examine the analytical results and the chaotic motions. Three critical values are given. The first one makes the system lose the static stability by pitchfork bifurcation. The second one makes the system lose the dynamical stability by Hopf bifurcation. The third one makes the periodic motions of the system lose the stability by doubling-period bifurcation.

Notes: Abstract This paper considers the dynamical behavior of a Duffing-Mathieu type system with a cubic single-well potential during the principal parametric resonance. Both the cases of constant and time-dependent excitation amplitude are used to observe the variation of the extent and the rate of the erosion in safe basins. It is evident that the appearance of fractal basin boundaries heralds the onset of the losing of structural integrity. The minimum value of control parameter to prevent the basin from erosion is given along with the excitation amplitude varying. The results show the time-dependence of excitation amplitude can be used to control the extent and the rate of the erosion and delay the first occurrence of heteroclinic tangency.

Notes: Abstract By using the modified iteration method of large deflection theory of plates with variable thickness[1], we solve the problem of circular plates with variable thickness subjected to combined loads under the boundary conditions of the clamped edges and get comparatively more accurate second-order approximate analytical solution. If the results of this paper are degraded into the special cases, the results coinciding with those of papers [1, 2] can be obtained. In this paper, the characteristic curves are plotted and some comparisons are made. The results of this paper are satisfactory.

Notes: Abstract This paper investigates nonlinear normal modes and their superposition in a two degrees of freedom asymmetric system with cubic nonlinearities for all nonsingular conditions, based on the invariant subspace in nonlinear normal modes for the nonlinear equations of motion. The focus of attention is to consider relation between the validity of superposition and the static bifurcation of modal dynamics. The numerical results show that the validity has something to do not only with its local restriction, but also with the static bifurcation of modal dynamics.
