Abstract The compaction behaviour of a ceramic powder can be improved by ultrasonic assistance, only when ultrasounds are used at pressures lower than a critical value,P C. This critical pressure is connected with the limit of mobility of the powder grains under ultrasonic vibrations. Its value depends on the characteristics of the powder, as well as those of the ultrasounds: frequency, amplitude, time of application, etc.
