Boronium and Borenium Salts and Neutral Adducts from (Pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)boron Halides and Nitrogen BasesFrom dichloro(η1-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)borane (1) and nitrogen donors structurally different Lewis acid/base adducts arise. With the bidentade molecules 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline the boronium salts 2 and 3 are formed. Reaction of the monodentade molecules trimethylamine, triethylamine, pyridine, isoquinoline, and quinoline with 1 leads to the neutral adducts 6-10, reaction of acridine and phenanthridine to the borenium salts 11 and 12. The boronium salt 5 is formed from iodo-(η5-pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)boron(1+) tetraiodoborate (4) and two equivalents of pyridine. The complexes 9-12 decompose in dichloromethane to the boron trichloride-amine adducts 13-16. The yellow to deep red cyclopentadienylboron complexes with aromatic amines show a striking luminescence due to the formation of exciplexes or excimers. The solid-state structures of 8 and 9 have been investigated by X-ray analysis. 11B and 1H NMR data of all adducts are discussed.
Notes:
