Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis and Behaviour of 1.5-Didehydronorhygrine and 1.6-DidehydroisopelletierineThe title compounds (5, 6) are hypothetical intermediates in the biosynthesis to mono- and bicyclic pyrrolidine and piperidine alkaloids. A chemical synthesis closely following a biochemical pathway discussed by several authors is described.

Description / Table of Contents: Preparation and Behaviour of 1.5-Didehydrohygrine and N-Methyl-1.6-didehydroisopelletierineA one step synthesis of the title compounds and their cyclisation to tropinone and pseudopelletierine is reported. A second synthesis of 1.5-didehydrohygrine (5) involving 1-Methyl-Δ1-pyrrolinium-5-carboxylic acid (19) is described.
