Description: In Colombia, as in other Latin American countries, educational reforms are being carried out with the aim of promoting quality education. Thus, current psychology programs undergo from time to time an evaluation and rethinking of their curricula, content, methods, assessment practices and other aspects in order to improve, redefine and contextualize psychology education. Thus, this book invites us to reflect on how, why and for what purpose to train psychologists today in Colombia and how research training provides spaces for reflection to think about new perspectives and approaches to the social challenges of our country. Moreover, the curriculum, as a reiterative school practice, ends up producing and reproducing unsuspected subjective forms according to the demands of a society, thus producing particular ways of acting and thinking that, among other aspects, are alienating. The proposal, then, is to identify this situation in order to transcend a merely technical curriculum and reproducer of social practices and bet on an emancipating curriculum, autonomizing the subjects and transforming the practices of a social group. Hence, questioning and debating the training in psychology is central both for the discipline and for the context.

Notes: The energy transfer between matter and radiation at very high temperatures is investigated. A previously presented formalism is applied to a mixture of electrons, positrons, and photons interacting through Compton scattering and pair creation and annihilation. The relaxation time toward thermal equilibrium and the bulk viscosity of the mixture are derived, and numerical results are presented for temperatures 3×108 K≤T≤1011 K. For temperatures T(approximately-greater-than)8×108 K pair creation and annihilation is found to be more efficient than Compton scattering in transferring energy between matter and radiation.

Notes: The interaction between the two components of a relativistic binary gas is investigated. Starting from the relativistic Boltzmann equation, general expressions for the rate of energy exchange, the relaxation time, and the coefficient of bulk viscosity are obtained. As a particular example, the formalism is applied to the study of a gas at very high temperatures, T〈∼6×109 °K, assuming that the energy exchange between matter and radiation is caused by Compton scattering; relativistic effects are fully taken into account.

Notes: We have studied GaxIn1−xAsySb1−y/GaSb heterostructures for x=0.84 and y=0.14 using the photoacoustic technique with the heat transmission configuration. A theoretical model, which includes all the possible nonradiative recombination mechanisms that contribute to heat generation, was developed to calculate the photoacoustic signal for this type of heterostructure. The Auger recombination lifetime τAuger was determined by fitting our experimental results to the calculated frequency dependence of the theoretical photoacoustic signal. The obtained value for τAuger is compatible with those reported in the literature for semiconductors with band-gap energies below and above 0.5 eV, the energy region where there is a lack of experimental τAuger values. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The effect of addition of CaCl2 2H2O and MgCl2 6H2O on crystallization kinetics and the rheological behavior of a 70% trehalose solution was studied by polarized light microscopy and dynamic oscillatory rheometry. Salts caused a delay on nucleation with induction times for crystallization longer for Mg2+ than for Ca2+. Divalent cations were incorporated into crystals, changing the growth of certain faces preferentially, which resulted in changes in morphology. Addition of CaCl2 2H2O in a high salt/trehalose molar ratio dramatically increased complex modulus (G*), indicating a stronger viscoelastic behavior. A gel-like structure was formed when Ca2+ was added to trehalose solution. The behavior of Mg2+/trehalose solutions cannot be considered viscoelastic in nature but as a fluid-like system.

Notes: SUMMARY. 1. Age, growth and reproduction in an Atlantic population of the small fish, Aphanius iberus (Cuv. & Val., 1846), from the estuary of the Guadalquivir river were studied.2. The growth period was from April to September and the annulus on the scales was formed in April.3. The life-span was short with a winter age-structure of 95.9% 0+ fish, 3.9% 1+ and 0.2% 2+.4. The fecundity of this stock, before the beginning of reproduction, is represented by the formula: Fec=0.907 TL (cm)4.099. During the reproductive period 1+ females contained more, smaller eggs g−1 of gonad than 0+ fish.5. Males matured before females, but females were larger than males. The overall sex ratio did not differ from 1:1 but males dominated significantly during most of the spawning period.6. Aphanius iberus spawned intermittently during the reproductive period. From April to July, 1+ group specimens (7–12 months old) reproduced. Their offspring (0+ group; 3–4 months old) reproduced from July to September. Very few of the 1+ group specimens survived to spawn the following year.7. Mean gonadosomatic indices were much higher in the 1+ group than in the 0+ group and in females compared to males.8. The loss of condition and the disappearance of the 1 + group during spawning, may indicate the cost of a prolonged high level of reproductive effort.9. In this productive environment, the life history of Aphanius iberus is similar to that of Gambusia affinis (Baird & Girard, 1853) and Fundulus heteroclitus (Linnaeus) found in the same area.

Notes: The present paper assesses the fertilization and hatching rates of an artificial fertilization series (n=1153) using fresh and cryopreserved sperm from 49 specimens of turbot Scophthalmus maximus (L.), carried out to confirm the results of a previous study, with the ultimate aim of transferring these cryo-preservation techniques to commercial hatcheries. No significant differences were found between the fertilization rates of the two groups (fresh and cryopreserved sperm) when their respective fertility rates were 〉69.2%, which was the case in 75% of all fertilizations. Likewise, no significant differences in hatching rates were found. In order to use the cryopreserved sperm more efficiently, a key concern for commercial use of this technique, we also experimented with a lower sperm:diluent ratio (1:1) than used previously at our centre. We also compared the traditional 0.5-mL straws with 2-mL cryotubes able to contain a higher volume of sperm, finding no significant differences in the resulting fertilization and hatching rates. In conclusion, the use of cryopreservation for turbot sperm presents major advantages for broodstock management in commercial hatcheries.

Notes: The age, growth and reproduction of Leuciscus pyrenaicus (Günther, 1868), an endemic cyprinid from the Iberian Peninsula, was studied from November 1987 to September 1989 in a small seasonal tributary of the Guadalquivir river basin. Maximum fork lengths observed were a 160 mm male with six scale annuli and a 171 mm female aged 7 +. Maximum ages observed were 7 + in males and 8 + in females. There were no significant differences in the annual growth increments between sexes. Seasonal growth period started in March and continued for 5 to 6 months. Mean lengths of 1 + specimens onwards diminished during summer and/or autumn. Males and females matured in their third and fourth year of life respectively. The overall sex ratio (272 males: 310 females) differed significantly from equality. Spawning began in May and ended in July. L. pyrenaicus is a multiple spawner that releases a minimum of two batches of eggs per female each year. Eggs in each batch were similar in both size (egg diameter) and number released. The relationship between fecundity (Fee) and fork length (mm) was represented by the formula: Fec=1.96 10−3 L2.50.
